Ghana Embassy Attestation for Indian Papers

Ghana embassy attestation is the route we use to prepare Indian papers for Ghana. The document is verified in India, attested by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and then legalized by the High Commission of Ghana in New Delhi, which acts as Ghana's embassy in India. English is Ghana's official language, so translation is rarely needed.

Quick answer

How do I get an Indian document attested for Ghana? For Ghana embassy attestation, verify the paper in India first: the state education or home department for personal papers, or a Chamber of Commerce for trade papers. The MEA then attests it, and the Ghana High Commission in New Delhi legalizes it. Ghana uses English, so most papers need no translation. Confirm the exact list with the receiving office in Ghana.

A High Commission, Not an Embassy

Ghana and India are both Commonwealth members, so Ghana is represented in New Delhi by a High Commission. It does the work an embassy does for other countries, including legalization of documents. When a Ghanaian office asks for embassy attestation, this is the stamp they mean.

Because Ghana works in English, an Indian degree or company certificate in English can usually be used as it is. That removes the translation step that makes Gulf, Latin American and European files longer.

Indian Exporters and Ghana

India is one of Ghana's major trading partners. Indian firms ship rice, pharmaceuticals, vehicles, two-wheelers, machinery and textiles to Ghana. Importers and regulators there may want legalized commercial invoices, a certificate of origin, a free sale certificate or company registration papers.

Pharmaceutical and food exporters often deal with product registration in Ghana, which asks for legalized manufacturing and company documents. These start at a Chamber of Commerce before the MEA and the High Commission. See our commercial documents service and the certificate of origin page.

Ghana Embassy Attestation Steps

  1. Verify at source. State education department for degrees, home department or notary and SDM for personal papers, Chamber of Commerce for commercial ones.
  2. MEA attestation. The MEA attests the officer's signature.
  3. Ghana High Commission. The mission in New Delhi legalizes the paper.
  4. Return by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier.

If the office in Ghana says it will accept an Apostille instead, follow its written instruction. Ask us and we will advise on that case. Our embassy attestation page explains the general chain.

Ghanaian Students Returning Home

Ghanaian students study in India in fields such as IT, engineering, pharmacy and management. Back home, employers and Ghana's education and accreditation bodies may ask for their Indian degree and transcripts to be legalized. The papers go through the state where the university sits, then the MEA and the High Commission. A friend in India can send them if you have already left. See our degree certificate page.

Collect all transcripts and the provisional certificate before you leave India, so everything can be legalized in one batch.

Indian Staff Posted to Ghana

Indian companies in Ghana send managers, engineers and technicians there. A work permit may call for a legalized degree, experience letters and a police clearance certificate. Spouses joining them need a legalized marriage certificate. See our PCC page.

Setting Up in Ghana

Indian companies opening a branch or subsidiary in Ghana usually need a legalized certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles, and a board resolution naming the local directors or representative. A power of attorney for a Ghanaian lawyer or agent is often added. These are signed by an authorised director, notarised, certified by a Chamber of Commerce, attested by the MEA and legalized by the High Commission.

Print every resolution on company letterhead, with the signatory's name and designation below the signature. Unsigned or unclear papers are the main reason chambers send files back.

Errors That Cost Time

  • Invoices, packing lists and certificates of origin that show different consignee details.
  • Unsigned or unstamped copies of company papers.
  • Laminated degrees.
  • Sending documents before the Ghanaian buyer confirms which papers it needs.
