Bangladesh Apostille from India: Documents for Your Neighbour Country
A Bangladesh apostille issued by MEA in New Delhi is all an Indian document needs on the Indian side before use in Bangladesh. Bangladesh became a party to the Apostille Convention, effective 30 March 2025, which ended the old High Commission legalization step. INFINITYGRO handles the verification and MEA stages for clients across India.

Documents from India for Bangladesh
Is an apostille enough for Indian documents used in Bangladesh? Yes. Since 30 March 2025 Bangladesh accepts apostilles from other member countries, and India is one. After your document is verified by the correct state body or Chamber of Commerce, MEA adds a Bangladesh apostille. You no longer need the Bangladesh High Commission to legalize it. The authority in Bangladesh may still ask for a Bangla translation.
Why so many Indian papers go to Bangladesh
The two countries share a long border, a language in West Bengal and Tripura, and close family ties. That creates a steady flow of marriage certificates, birth certificates and property-related affidavits moving between them. Trade adds more: Indian exporters ship cotton, yarn, machinery, food grains and chemicals to Bangladeshi buyers.
Before 2025 every one of these papers needed MEA attestation and then legalization at the Bangladesh High Commission. Today the chain is shorter.

The Bangladesh apostille route, in order
- Identify the document type. Education, personal and commercial papers each have their own first stop.
- Get it verified. For degrees, the university or state education department. For birth, marriage and marriage certificates, the state Home or GAD department, or notary and SDM where allowed. For trade papers, a Chamber of Commerce.
- MEA apostille through the authorised outsourced centre.
- Use the document in Bangladesh.

The verifying stamp matters most. MEA will only add the Bangladesh apostille when the signature it sees belongs to an officer whose specimen it holds. That is why a document signed by a private school head or a company clerk has to pass through the proper state office or chamber first. If your certificate comes from a municipal body in West Bengal, Assam or Tripura, the state department checks it against municipal records before forwarding.
Language: when Bangla translation is needed
Many Bangladeshi offices, banks and courts work comfortably with English. Some, especially land offices and local registrars, may prefer Bangla. Ask the receiving office before ordering a translation.
If your document is in Bengali, Hindi or another Indian language, an English translation helps both the Indian verifying officer and the Bangladeshi reader. INFINITYGRO can arrange certified translation when it is required.
Exporting to Bangladesh: which papers get apostilled
Bangladeshi banks open letters of credit for many Indian shipments, and some importers or tender bodies want certain papers legalized. These often include the certificate of origin, commercial invoice, company registration and authorised dealer letters. The chamber authenticates them, then MEA adds the apostille.
Check the LC wording. If it asks for "legalized" papers, a Bangladesh apostille now satisfies that for most banks, but confirm with the issuing bank.
Students and professionals
Indian students who study in Bangladesh, often in medicine, may be asked for school certificates with an apostille at admission. Professionals joining Bangladeshi employers may need degree and experience letters. Verify the degree first, then MEA adds the apostille.
Medical admissions can be strict about dates. Colleges may ask that the apostille is recent, or that the school leaving certificate and marksheets show the same date of birth as the passport. Fix any mismatch at the issuing board before starting. A corrected certificate goes through verification again, so it is cheaper to get it right once.
Your document checklist
- Original certificate, not laminated
- Passport or Aadhaar copy of the holder
- For companies: signed letterhead copies and the authorised signatory's details
- Name of the Bangladeshi office or bank receiving it
Send a scan on WhatsApp first. Then courier the originals to our Delhi office. We return them by Blue Dart or another tracked courier.
Papers legalized before 2025
If you have documents that were attested by MEA and legalized by the Bangladesh High Commission before 30 March 2025, they usually remain valid. You do not need to apostille them again just because the rules changed. A Bangladeshi office that is unsure can check the HCCH status table, which lists Bangladesh among the contracting parties. If an office still insists on a fresh document, ask whether it wants a newly issued certificate or only a new stamp. The answer changes what we send to MEA.
Common slips
- Booking a High Commission appointment that is no longer needed.
- Spelling a name differently on the passport and the certificate.
- Sending a self-attested photocopy where the original must be apostilled.
