Bulgaria Apostille for Indian Workers, Students and Families
Bulgaria apostille requests from India have grown as Bulgarian employers recruit Indian workers for the EU labour market. Bulgaria is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Apostille replaces any embassy legalization. The extra step is a Bulgarian translation done the way Bulgarian offices accept it.

Documents from India for Bulgaria
What makes an Indian document valid in Bulgaria? Bulgaria accepts the Apostille. The paper is verified in India by the state, a notary or a Chamber of Commerce, and the MEA then issues the Bulgaria apostille. Bulgarian offices then expect a translation into Bulgarian, usually made by a translator or agency that is authorised for official translations in Bulgaria.
Work Permits in an EU Country
Bulgaria has been short of workers in construction, transport, hospitality and agriculture, and employers there now hire from India. A Bulgarian work permit usually involves proof of qualification and experience. Employers commonly ask for an apostilled diploma or ITI certificate, experience letters and a police clearance certificate.
The employer in Bulgaria normally files the application. Get their list first. Every paper on it should be apostilled and translated once, in the right order.
Job offers for Bulgaria often come through agents. Before paying anyone, check that the employer is real and that the job offer is in writing. We only handle documents. We do not place workers or arrange visas, and we never ask for visa fees.

Bulgarian Translation Rules
Bulgaria is strict about translations. Offices there generally accept translations into Bulgarian made by translators or agencies authorised for official work in Bulgaria. In practice most clients get the translation done in Bulgaria after the Apostille. Your employer or university can usually point you to a translator.
If an office accepts a translation from India, we can help through our translation service. Confirm this in writing before paying for it.
Studying in Bulgaria
Bulgarian medical universities teach in English and take Indian students. Admission and recognition of school results need apostilled Class 12 papers and a birth certificate. Universities also run their own recognition of foreign school results, which may take extra time. Start early.
Students should also keep their apostilled papers safe after admission. Residence permit renewals in Bulgaria may ask to see them again.
Family Reunion and Marriage
A worker who settles in Bulgaria may later bring a spouse and children. That needs an apostilled marriage certificate and birth certificates. See our marriage certificate guide. A registered marriage certificate is the safest choice.
Children's birth certificates should show both parents' names as they appear on the passports. If they differ, sort it out with the registrar in India before applying.
Indian Exporters Selling into Bulgaria
Goods sold into Bulgaria fall under EU rules. Buyers may want a certificate of origin, a free sale certificate or company papers apostilled. Commercial papers start at a Chamber of Commerce. See our commercial documents service.
Documents Bulgarian Employers Ask For
- Passport copy, clear and valid for the full contract period.
- Diploma, degree or ITI certificate, with mark sheets where asked.
- Experience letters stating your role, dates and duties, on letterhead and signed.
- A recent police clearance certificate.
- Marriage and birth certificates if your family will join you later.
Recruiters sometimes send a long generic list. Apostille only what the Bulgarian employer confirms it will file, so you do not pay for papers nobody uses.
Mistakes Bulgarian Offices Reject
- Translations done by an unrecognised translator.
- Experience letters without a signature, stamp or contact details.
- Names spelt differently across passport, diploma and letters.
- Old police clearance certificates past the date the office accepts.
Most of these are easy to fix before you send. A short call with us often saves a second round of stamps.
