Ecuador Apostille: Using Indian Documents in Ecuador
An Ecuador apostille from India's Ministry of External Affairs lets Ecuadorian ministries, civil registries and companies accept your Indian document. Ecuador is a party to the Apostille Convention, so you do not need to approach any Ecuadorian consulate after MEA.

Documents from India for Ecuador
Which stamp do Ecuadorian authorities expect on Indian documents? They expect the MEA apostille. Each Indian document is first verified by its state department, SDM or a Chamber of Commerce, and then MEA issues the Ecuador apostille. A Spanish translation is usually added afterwards. No embassy or consulate legalization is part of the route, which keeps the process shorter than for non-Convention countries.
Why Ecuador accepts the MEA apostille
The Hague Apostille Convention lets one country's competent authority certify a public document so that every other member accepts it. India's competent authority is MEA. Ecuador is listed as a party on the HCCH status table, so its offices accept the MEA apostille in place of consular legalization.
This also means MEA is the only Indian body that can issue it. Apostilles from any other office in India are not valid.

- Send to MEA for the apostille.
- Translate into Spanish.

Papers for Indian exporters to Ecuador
Ecuador buys Indian goods such as medicines, vehicles and parts, steel, yarn and chemicals. Before an Ecuadorian importer registers a new product, it may request apostilled supplier documents. Common requests include a free sale certificate, a GMP certificate, a certificate of incorporation, and a letter of authorisation for the local distributor.
These go to a Chamber of Commerce, then to MEA. Trade papers such as a certificate of origin can also be apostilled if the buyer asks.
Planning your timing
We do not promise fixed timelines, because the time taken depends on the state department, the chamber and MEA's workload. What we can tell you is the order of work and where queues form. State verification is usually the slowest step for educational and personal documents. Chamber authentication is usually quicker for company papers.
If your Ecuadorian visa appointment or tender deadline is fixed, tell us at the start. We will tell you honestly whether it looks realistic and which papers to prioritise.
Personal and education documents
- Birth and marriage certificates for residence or civil registration
- Police clearance for a residence or work visa
- Degrees and transcripts for jobs or further study
- Affidavits on name, single status or address
Use the same name spelling on every paper. Ecuadorian officials compare the passport, certificate and translation carefully.
Spanish translation for Ecuador
Spanish is the working language of Ecuador's public offices. After MEA has apostilled the document, a Spanish translation is normally attached. Ask your receiving office whether a translation made in India is acceptable or whether it must be done or certified in Ecuador. We can organise a certified Spanish translation where it fits.
Where Ecuador apostille files go wrong
- Applying at the wrong state. A degree from a university in Karnataka has to be verified in Karnataka, even if you now live in Delhi.
- Missing signatures on company documents. A Chamber of Commerce needs the authorised signatory's signature and the company stamp.
- Unclear photocopies. Verifying offices often keep a copy, and a blurred one can lead to refusal.
- Expecting one Ecuador apostille to cover a whole bundle. MEA fixes a separate apostille on each document.
- Approaching an Ecuadorian consulate after MEA. That step is not part of the route.
