Dominican Republic Apostille for Indian Certificates and Company Papers
Need an Indian certificate accepted in Santo Domingo or Punta Cana? A Dominican Republic apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is the step that makes it valid there, because both countries apply the Hague Apostille Convention. Before that, the document is authenticated in India by the state department, notary or Chamber of Commerce that matches its type.

Documents from India for Dominican Republic
Is there any embassy stamp for the Dominican Republic? No embassy stamp is needed. The Dominican Republic and India both apply the Apostille Convention, so a Dominican Republic apostille from the MEA completes the Indian side. After that, most Dominican offices want a Spanish translation, which may need to be prepared or certified by a translator recognised in the Dominican Republic. Ask the office receiving your papers.
Marriage and Family Papers Come First
Many Dominican Republic requests from India are about family status. An Indian marrying a Dominican citizen, or a couple registering an Indian marriage, usually needs a birth certificate, a marriage certificate or a single status declaration. Each must carry its own Apostille.
A marriage certificate issued by a registrar under the Special Marriage Act or a state registration rule can be apostilled after state authentication. A religious ceremony certificate on its own is often not enough. Our marriage certificate apostille guide explains which version to send.

How a Dominican Republic Apostille Is Obtained
- Identify the right Indian authority. Degrees go to the state education department. Birth, marriage and affidavits go to the state home or GAD department or a notary and SDM. Company papers go to a Chamber of Commerce.
- That authority verifies and signs or stamps the document.
- The MEA checks the signature and adds the Apostille through its authorised centre.
The MEA does not judge the content of the paper, only that the Indian officer's signature is genuine. See our MEA Apostille page for more.
Spanish Translation After the Apostille
Dominican public offices work in Spanish. Translate the document after the Apostille so that the sticker is part of the translation. Some offices accept a certified translation from India. Others want a translator recognised in the Dominican Republic. We can arrange a Spanish translation if your office allows it.
Work and Trade Documents
Indian staff joining hotels, resorts or companies in the Dominican Republic are often asked for degree certificates, experience letters and a police clearance certificate. Exporters of pharmaceuticals, rice, textiles and machinery may be asked for apostilled company and shipment papers by a local importer or a regulator.
Export papers go through a Chamber of Commerce before the MEA. Keep invoice numbers, consignee names and product descriptions identical on every paper.
Single Status and Affidavits
Dominican civil registries often want proof that an Indian partner is free to marry. In India this is usually a single status or bachelorhood affidavit sworn before a notary or an executive magistrate. Because it is a private declaration, it first goes through the notary and SDM or the state home department for authentication. Only then can the MEA add the Apostille.
Write the affidavit with the same name spelling as the passport and include the passport number. Registries compare the two closely.
Choosing the Right Version of Each Certificate
Indian certificates come in several versions. Birth certificates may be handwritten, printed or downloaded from a state portal. Degrees may have a provisional certificate and a final one. For a Dominican Republic apostille, send the version the state department can verify: normally the final, registrar-issued or university-issued original.
If you only have a portal printout, tell us. Some states verify these and some ask for a fresh copy from the issuing office. See our birth certificate apostille page for the details.
