Egypt Embassy Attestation from India

Egypt is not an Apostille partner of India, so an Indian document needs Egypt embassy attestation before Egyptian offices will rely on it. The chain runs through a state department or Chamber of Commerce, then the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and ends with the Embassy of Egypt in New Delhi. An MEA apostille alone will not be accepted.

Quick answer

Why can't I use an apostille for Egypt? Egypt is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so it does not accept apostilles. Indian documents for Egypt follow the legalization chain instead: state or Chamber of Commerce verification, MEA attestation, and then Egypt embassy attestation in New Delhi. Arabic translation is commonly needed for use in Egypt, especially for official filings and commercial registrations.

The most common Egypt mistake: an apostille

Many people get an MEA apostille out of habit and post it to Egypt. Egyptian offices return it, because Egypt is outside the Apostille Convention. The document then has to go back through MEA for normal attestation and on to the embassy.

If your paper already carries an apostille, tell us before sending. We can advise whether a fresh attestation is needed.

Egypt embassy attestation, step by step

  1. Home-state verification. Degrees go to the state education department. Birth, marriage and similar records go to the state Home or GAD department, or a notary and SDM where the state permits.
  2. Chamber of Commerce for invoices, certificates of origin and company papers.
  3. MEA attestation through an authorised outsourced centre.
  4. Embassy of Egypt in New Delhi legalizes the MEA stamp.

Our embassy attestation service page explains how we handle the embassy stage.

Export documents for Egyptian buyers

Egypt is a market for Indian rice, meat, spices, chemicals and engineering goods. Egyptian importers and banks often ask for legalized commercial invoices and certificates of origin, and sometimes for health or phytosanitary certificates.

Every paper in the set should match: consignee name, invoice number, quantities and description. A mismatch is the main reason a shipment's documents bounce. See certificate of origin attestation and our commercial documents guide.

Arabic translation

Arabic is the official language in Egypt. Contracts, company documents and civil records filed with Egyptian authorities are often needed in Arabic. INFINITYGRO arranges certified Arabic translation in India. Ask the receiving party whether they also want the translation itself attested. See our translation service.

Family and personal records

Indians who marry Egyptian nationals, or who move to Egypt with a spouse and children, need civil records that Egyptian offices will trust. The usual ones are the birth certificate, the marriage certificate and, for some applications, a police clearance or a single status declaration.

These start with the state department in the state that issued them. A marriage registered in Delhi is verified through Delhi, a birth registered in Kerala through Kerala, and so on. Where a family has records from more than one state, the timeline depends on the slowest state. See marriage certificate attestation.

Degrees for jobs and study in Egypt

Engineers, teachers and healthcare staff hired in Egypt usually need their degree attested. Students going to Egyptian universities need school or college certificates. The education department of the state where the university or board sits must verify them first, so a Delhi agency still needs your original sent to that state's process.

Company documents and agency appointments

Indian firms that appoint an Egyptian agent, register products or bid in tenders are often asked for legalized company papers. Typical examples are the certificate of incorporation, a board resolution authorising the signatory, a power of attorney and an agency agreement.

These should be signed by the authorised signatory, on letterhead where relevant, and notarised before the Chamber of Commerce step. A document signed by someone without authority can be refused at the chamber or the embassy, so check the board resolution covers the person signing.
