Is the Italian Embassy involved in legalizing Indian papers? Not for legalization. Italy and India both apply the Apostille Convention, so the Italy apostille from the MEA is the last step in India. The Italian Embassy or consulates in India may still play a separate role, for example certifying translations or issuing a statement of value for a degree. Ask the Italian office which of these your file needs.
Family Reunification Files
When an Indian worker in Italy applies to bring a spouse or children, the Italian authorities need proof of the family relationship. That usually means a marriage certificate for the spouse and birth certificates for the children, each with an Apostille and an Italian translation.
Get the certificates from the registrar, not a hospital record. A registrar-issued marriage certificate can be authenticated by the state and then apostilled. Names and dates of birth must match the passports exactly, since the Italian office checks them line by line.

Italian Translation Options
Italian offices usually accept one of two kinds of translation. One is a sworn translation, made in Italy and sworn before a court or similar office. The other is a translation certified by an Italian consulate. Which one works depends on the office in Italy, so confirm before you pay for either.

Degrees, Universities and Statements of Value
Indian students applying to Italian universities often need their degree and transcripts apostilled. Some universities also ask for a statement of value issued by the Italian consulate in India, or a comparability statement from CIMEA, the Italian information centre for qualifications. Which one is required varies by university and course.

Papers for Italian Buyers
Italian importers of Indian textiles, leather, spices, machinery parts and chemicals sometimes ask for apostilled company or shipment papers. Typical requests are the certificate of incorporation, power of attorney, certificate of origin and free sale certificate. These go to a Chamber of Commerce before the MEA.
Seasonal and Long-Term Workers
Many Indians work in Italian agriculture, food processing and manufacturing. Work permits are usually arranged by the employer in Italy, but the worker may later need apostilled civil documents for residence, marriage registration or a child's registration. Collect these papers in one trip where possible. Each document needs its own Apostille, and repeated couriers between India and Italy add delay.
