Sweden Apostille for Indian Marriage, Birth and Degree Papers
A Sweden apostille from India's Ministry of External Affairs is what Swedish authorities expect on Indian civil documents when they ask for legalization. India and Sweden both apply the Hague Apostille Convention, so no embassy step is needed. INFINITYGRO prepares these papers from anywhere in India.

Documents from India for Sweden
When does Sweden ask for an apostille on Indian documents? Swedish offices often request an apostille on civil records such as marriage and birth certificates, for example when registering a family in the Swedish population register. Degrees may need one for some employers or evaluations. The Indian authority verifies the paper, then MEA adds the Sweden apostille. English papers are often accepted in Sweden, but check first.
Population registration is where most requests start
Many Indians move to Sweden for IT, engineering and research jobs, and their families follow. To register a spouse or child in the Swedish population register, Swedish authorities usually want to see proof of the family relationship. For Indian marriage and birth certificates, that often means an apostille.
Check the current requirements with the Swedish authority handling your case, since they decide which papers need one. Then send us the originals and we will prepare them.
Swedish authorities can be strict about how a marriage or birth is proven. For some countries they need extra papers or interviews. For India, an apostilled registrar's certificate is the usual starting point. Bring the full certificate, not a short extract. If the original is old, damaged or handwritten, it is often simpler to get a fresh copy from the registrar before verification.

English is often enough in Sweden
Unlike many European countries, Swedish authorities often accept documents in English. That saves the cost and time of a Swedish translation. If your Indian certificate is in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil or another regional language, a certified English or Swedish translation will usually be needed. INFINITYGRO can arrange certified translation where accepted.
How MEA issues a Sweden apostille
- Marriage and birth certificates. The state Home or GAD department verifies them, or notary and SDM where the state allows. See our marriage certificate and birth certificate pages.
- Degrees. The university or state education department verifies them.
- Company papers. A Chamber of Commerce authenticates them.
- MEA apostille, through the authorised outsourced centre, at Rs 50 per document.
Marriage certificates: which version
India has several kinds of marriage certificate, issued under the Hindu Marriage Act, the Special Marriage Act and other laws. A certificate issued by the marriage registrar is what states usually verify. A temple or religious certificate on its own may not be accepted for verification. If you married in one state and live in another, the state where the certificate was issued handles verification.
Couples who registered their marriage years after the wedding should send the registrar certificate as issued. The registration date and the marriage date can differ, and that is normal. If the certificate has handwritten parts or an old format, the state department may ask the registrar to confirm it before verification, which can add time.
Degrees and work
Swedish employers in tech often accept degrees without an apostille, but some, along with certain evaluation or licensing bodies, may ask for one. Doctors, nurses and teachers usually face stricter licensing rules. Keep transcripts ready, since evaluators look at course content.
Students admitted to Swedish universities usually upload documents to the national admissions system, and the rules there are separate from the apostille. Some may later need a Sweden apostille for residence or family matters. Our degree certificate apostille page covers university verification if that becomes necessary.
