Georgia Apostille for Indian Students and Professionals
Indian students who choose medical and other degrees in Tbilisi, Batumi or Kutaisi usually need a Georgia apostille on their school certificates before admission is finalised. The apostille is issued by India's Ministry of External Affairs, and because Georgia is an Apostille Convention party, no Georgian embassy stamp is needed.

Documents from India for Georgia
Which documents do Indian students apostille for Georgia? Students usually apostille their 10th and 12th mark sheets and passing certificates, and often the birth certificate. Graduates going for work or postgraduate study apostille their degree. Each paper is verified by the state education or home department first, then MEA issues the Georgia apostille. Georgian universities then arrange a Georgian translation locally.
Georgia apostille for medical and other students
Georgian universities enrol many Indian students, and the admission checklist almost always mentions apostilled school documents. The university or its agent uses them to process recognition of your secondary education and your study visa or residence permit.
Start early. School board certificates have to be verified by the education department of the state that issued them, and some states move slowly at admission time. Check with your university which exact papers it wants apostilled, since lists differ between institutions.

- Clear photocopies of both sides
CBSE and other national board documents are verified through the competent authority before MEA. State board documents go to the education department of that state. We route each one correctly.
Route from India to Georgia
- State education department verification for school and university papers; state Home/GAD or SDM verification for a birth certificate or police certificate.
- MEA apostille.
- Courier back to you, ready to carry or send to Georgia.
Read more about MEA's process in our MEA apostille guide, and see the degree certificate apostille page if you are a graduate.
After the Georgia apostille is done
Once MEA has fixed the apostille, each document has a sticker on the back with a unique number. Keep the papers flat and dry, and do not remove or staple over the sticker. Scan every page in colour, because Georgian universities and agents often ask for scans before you arrive.
If you later need the same certificates for another country, for example a postgraduate move, the apostille is generally valid in every Convention country. Embassy-route countries need a different process. See our embassy attestation page for that.
Georgian translation
Georgian authorities work in Georgian. The usual practice is for the apostilled document to be translated into Georgian by a translator in Georgia, often with notarisation there. Your university or agent normally guides you on this. Translating in India is rarely needed for Georgia, so ask before you pay for it.
Mistakes students make
- Leaving the apostille until the last week before the flight. State education departments can be slow during admission season.
- Apostilling only the mark sheet when the university also asked for the passing certificate.
- Sending laminated mark sheets. They cannot be stamped.
- Different spellings of the student's or parent's name across the passport and certificates.
- Paying for an Indian translation the university did not ask for.
A quick look at your university's list before sending saves a second trip through verification.
Workers, families and businesses
Professionals working in Georgia may need an apostilled degree and a police clearance certificate. Families need birth or marriage certificates for residence. Indian companies trading with Georgia may need apostilled incorporation papers or a power of attorney, which go through a Chamber of Commerce first.
How to send your papers
Courier the originals with a passport copy and your university's checklist. Delhi NCR students can drop off in person. We quote per document in writing and return the documents by tracked courier. Message us on WhatsApp with your list.
If your university has sent a document list, forward it with the papers. We match each item to the right verifying authority and flag anything missing before it reaches MEA, so you are not caught short at admission time.
