Hungary Apostille for Indian Students, Workers and Firms

A Hungary apostille is issued in India by the Ministry of External Affairs and is accepted by Hungarian universities, immigration offices and courts. Hungary and India are both members of the Hague Apostille Convention, so there is no legalization at the Hungarian embassy once MEA has finished.

Quick answer

Is MEA apostille enough for documents used in Hungary? Yes, from the Indian side it is. After state or chamber verification, MEA issues the Hungary apostille and the document is ready to leave India. Hungarian authorities may then want a Hungarian translation, which in official matters is often made or certified by the national translation office in Hungary. Check with the receiving authority before translating.

Students heading to Hungarian universities

Hungarian universities run English-taught programmes in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and engineering, and they attract Indian applicants every year. Admission offices often request apostilled school leaving certificates or degrees, and the residence permit office may want the same set.

Read the admission letter closely. Some universities accept scans for the offer and only ask for apostilled originals at enrolment. Others want them before issuing the acceptance letter needed for the visa. Our degree certificate apostille page explains how university papers are verified in each state.

Skilled workers and families

Indian nationals take up work in Hungary in IT, manufacturing and logistics. Employers and the immigration authority may ask for an apostilled degree, a police clearance certificate and, for family members joining, birth and marriage certificates.

Each civil record is verified by the state that issued it. A Delhi birth certificate goes through the SDM or the Delhi Home department, a Maharashtra one through the Maharashtra authorities, and so on. We handle the routing so you do not have to.

Police certificates from India are often treated as valid for a limited period, so time your Hungary apostille request close to the permit application.

Hungary apostille steps

  1. Sort documents into educational, personal and commercial.
  2. Obtain the first verification from the right authority.
  3. Notarise documents you sign yourself, such as a declaration of single status or a power of attorney.
  4. Submit to MEA for the apostille through an authorised centre.
  5. Receive the documents back by tracked courier.

Our MEA apostille in India guide covers what MEA checks and what it does not.

Hungarian translation

Hungarian offices work in Hungarian. For many official purposes they ask for a certified translation, and in Hungary this is commonly provided by the state translation office (OFFI). Some universities accept English documents without translation, especially for English-taught courses.

Because the rules depend on the office, ask before paying for a translation in India. If an Indian translation will be accepted, we can arrange it through our translation team.

Company papers for Hungarian partners

Indian firms opening a branch, registering a subsidiary or bidding for work in Hungary usually need apostilled company records. The typical bundle is the certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles of association, a board resolution and a power of attorney for the local representative.

These are signed by an authorised signatory, notarised where needed and authenticated by a Chamber of Commerce before MEA. Exporters selling goods may also be asked for an apostilled certificate of origin or free sale certificate.

Avoidable problems

  • Taking apostilled papers to the Hungarian embassy for a further stamp. It is not needed.
  • Translating in India when the Hungarian office only accepts OFFI translations.
  • Sending a degree without the matching transcripts when the university asked for both.
  • Board resolutions signed by someone who is not an authorised signatory.

Each of these sends the file back to an earlier step, which costs time close to a semester start or a permit deadline. A short review before dispatch avoids most of them.

Questions

Hungary FAQs

Does the Hungarian embassy in New Delhi legalize Indian documents?

For Indian public documents going to Hungary, the MEA apostille replaces legalization. The embassy does not need to add a stamp.

Who translates documents for Hungarian authorities?

Many Hungarian offices ask for a translation certified by OFFI, the national translation office. Some accept other translations. Ask the receiving office.

Can I get a Hungary apostille on my 12th mark sheet?

Yes. It is verified by the education department of the issuing state, or the competent authority for a national board, and then apostilled by MEA.

Is the process the same for a medical university and an employer?

The Indian process is the same. The list of documents each one asks for may differ.

Can a company send documents from Gujarat or Tamil Nadu?

Yes. We accept documents from anywhere in India by courier and route them to the correct chamber or state office.

My degree is from a university that has closed. Can it still be apostilled?

Often yes, if the state education department can verify it from its records or those of the successor body. We check the options before sending it to MEA.
