Kazakhstan Apostille for Students and Professionals from India

A Kazakhstan apostille is what most Indian medical students need before they fly to Almaty, Semey or Karaganda. Kazakhstan is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so the Apostille issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India is the only legalization step. The harder part is usually the translation into Russian or Kazakh.

Quick answer

What do Indian students need for a Kazakhstan apostille? Most universities in Kazakhstan ask for the Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and certificates, a birth certificate and a passport copy. Each paper is verified by the state or board where needed, then gets a Kazakhstan apostille from the MEA. After that, a notarised translation into Russian or Kazakh is usually required.

Why Students Make Up Most Kazakhstan Files

Kazakhstan has become a popular choice for Indian students who want to study medicine abroad. Universities there take Indian Class 12 results for admission and then register the student with the local education authorities. Both steps need legalized school papers.

Because the country follows the Apostille Convention, families do not need to visit the Kazakh Embassy. The MEA sticker is accepted. That saves a stage that students heading to embassy-route countries still face.

The Usual Student Document Set

  • Class 10 mark sheet and pass certificate.
  • Class 12 mark sheet and pass certificate, with physics, chemistry and biology marks visible.
  • Birth certificate from the municipal registrar. See our birth certificate guide.
  • Sometimes a medical fitness certificate or HIV test report, signed by a doctor and notarised.

Universities differ. Ask the admission office or your agent for the exact list before you send anything, so each paper is apostilled only once.

Kazakhstan Apostille Process in India

  1. School certificates from CBSE or a state board are verified as the MEA requires. State board papers usually go through the state education department first.
  2. Personal papers go through the state home department or a notary and SDM.
  3. The MEA fixes the Apostille sticker on each document.
  4. We return the set by tracked courier, ready for translation.

More on the sticker is in our MEA Apostille guide.

Russian and Kazakh Translation

Kazakh offices work in Kazakh and Russian. Universities normally want the apostilled papers translated into one of them, and the translation is often notarised by a Kazakh notary. Many universities arrange this on arrival. Others accept a translation done in India. Ask first. We can arrange certified Russian translation in India when it is accepted.

Engineers, Oil and Gas, and Business

Indian engineers and managers also work in Kazakhstan's energy, construction and mining sectors. A work permit commonly needs an apostilled degree and experience letters. Companies trading with Kazakhstan, for example in pharmaceuticals, tea or rice, may need apostilled company papers and a certificate of origin. See our commercial documents service.

Experience letters for a work permit should be on company letterhead, signed by an authorised person and notarised before they go to the MEA.

Where Students Lose Time

  • Laminating the Class 12 mark sheet. It must stay unlaminated.
  • Name spelt one way on the passport and another on the school certificate. Fix it before applying.
  • Apostilling copies when the university wants originals, or the reverse.
  • Leaving the paperwork until the week of the flight.

Papers to Keep for Your Return to India

Students planning to practise in India later should keep their records in order from day one. Indian rules for foreign medical graduates set conditions on the course, the internship and the language of teaching. Check the current rules of the National Medical Commission before you choose a university. When you come back, your Kazakh degree and transcript will need to be legalized in Kazakhstan for use in India, which is a separate process from the one on this page.
