Panama Apostille for Indian Seafarers, Shippers and Families
A Panama apostille from India's Ministry of External Affairs is the last Indian step for documents used in Panama. India and Panama both apply the Hague Apostille Convention, so no embassy legalization is needed. INFINITYGRO prepares company, maritime-related, educational and personal papers for Panama from anywhere in India.

Documents from India for Panama
How do I get an Indian document ready for Panama? Verify it with the right Indian authority, such as a university, state department, notary and SDM, or Chamber of Commerce. Then MEA adds the Panama apostille, at Rs 50 per document. No embassy step follows. Panama works in Spanish, so most offices ask for a Spanish translation. Check who must translate it before you begin.
Panama and the shipping world
Panama is one of the world's largest ship registries and a key canal and free-trade hub. That brings Indian companies and individuals into contact with Panamanian offices in ways other countries do not. Shipowners and managers may need company papers, board resolutions or powers of attorney. Indian seafarers may need personal or educational documents. Traders using the Colón Free Zone may need commercial certificates.
Each of these papers needs an MEA apostille on the Indian side, with no consular step. Rules for ship and seafarer certificates are specific to the maritime authority, so ask your agent which documents need it.
Freight forwarders and traders shipping through Panama may also need certificates of origin or invoices for buyers in the Colón Free Zone or elsewhere in Latin America. These follow the chamber route first. Our certificate of origin page explains how the chamber checks them.

How the Panama apostille is issued in India
- Verification. Degrees go to the university or state education department. Birth and marriage records go to the state Home or GAD department, or notary and SDM where allowed. Company papers go to a recognised Chamber of Commerce, after notarisation where needed.
- MEA apostille. MEA's CPV Division attaches the apostille through its authorised outsourced centre. MEA checks the verifying signature, not the content.

A Panama apostille carries a unique number and is valid in Panama without any further Indian stamp. It does not expire, though some offices ask for recently issued certificates, especially police records. If the Panamanian lawyer needs the document within a fixed window, plan the issue date with that in mind.
Powers of attorney and company documents
Panamanian lawyers often ask Indian companies for a power of attorney, a board resolution and a certificate of incorporation. The authorised signatory signs on letterhead, a notary attests where needed, the chamber authenticates, and MEA adds the apostille. Our commercial documents page explains the chamber step.
Draft the power of attorney with your Panamanian lawyer first. A wording change after apostille means starting again.
Spanish translation for Panama
Spanish is the official language. Panamanian authorities usually want translations by a public translator authorised in Panama, though practice varies by office. Confirm before you order a translation in India. If an Indian translation is accepted, INFINITYGRO arranges certified Spanish translation.
Family and education papers
Spouses and children joining someone in Panama may need birth and marriage certificates. Professionals need degrees. Keep the names consistent across passport and certificates, since Panamanian registries compare them closely.
Indian seafarers sometimes need their marriage or birth certificates apostilled for family matters, such as registering a child or adding a spouse to insurance. Degrees and diplomas from maritime institutes follow the university or state verification route first. If the institute is affiliated with a university, the university's verification is usually what MEA needs to see.
