Singapore Apostille for Indian Documents
Singapore became an Apostille country on 16 September 2021. Since then, a Singapore apostille from India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has taken the place of legalization at the Singapore High Commission. English is an official language in Singapore, so Indian documents in English usually need no translation, which makes this one of the simpler destinations.

Documents from India for Singapore
What do I need to use an Indian document in Singapore? Most Indian public documents need state verification, notary and SDM, or Chamber of Commerce authentication, followed by a Singapore apostille from MEA. The Convention has applied to Singapore since 16 September 2021. No High Commission stamp is part of the standard route. Documents in Hindi or another Indian language usually need an English translation.
What changed in September 2021
Before the Convention entered into force for Singapore, Indian documents went through MEA attestation and then to the Singapore High Commission in New Delhi. Since 16 September 2021, that step is no longer part of the normal route for public documents. The MEA apostille now does the job.
Not every Singapore body asks for an apostille. Some employers and agencies just want a verified copy or online verification. Ask what is needed before you send anything.

Singapore apostille process in India
- Verification. State education department for degrees, state Home or GAD department or notary and SDM for civil records, Chamber of Commerce for business papers.
- MEA Apostille through an MEA authorised centre. Each document gets a numbered apostille certificate.
- Return by tracked courier.
See MEA apostille in India for how submission works.
Degrees for work passes
Singapore's work pass system looks closely at qualifications. Employers and the authorities may verify degrees through background screening companies rather than through an apostille. Some still ask for apostilled copies, especially for regulated professions such as nursing, medicine and teaching, where a professional board registers you.
Our degree certificate apostille page covers the education department step.
If you hold degrees from more than one university, each goes through the education department of the state where that university sits. Plan for that when you have both an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree from different states.
Dependant passes and school places
Families joining a pass holder often present a marriage certificate for the spouse and birth certificates for children. Schools may ask for previous school records. Have these apostilled before you leave India, so you do not need to send them back later.
See marriage certificate apostille.
Birth certificates should show both parents' names where possible. If a child's certificate lacks a parent's name, ask the issuing municipal body about a corrected copy before the apostille.
Company and export documents
Singapore is a regional hub for Indian companies. Setting up a subsidiary, opening a corporate bank account or registering with a Singapore regulator can call for apostilled company papers. Examples are the certificate of incorporation, MOA and AOA, board resolutions and powers of attorney. Traders also use Singapore for re-export, so buyers may ask for apostilled certificates of origin.
See our commercial documents page.
Singapore company service providers and banks are careful about who signs for a foreign parent company. A notarised board resolution naming the authorised signatory, on company letterhead, answers most of their questions. Make sure the names and director details match the records on the MCA portal, since the Singapore side may compare them.
Translation for documents not in English
Some Indian records are issued wholly or partly in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati or another regional language. Older birth certificates and land or court records often are. Singapore offices generally ask for an English translation alongside such papers.
Translate after the apostille is attached, so the translator covers every stamp. INFINITYGRO can arrange certified English translation from Indian languages. See our translation service.
Mistakes that cost time
- Paying for High Commission legalization that is no longer needed
- Apostilling a degree when the employer only wanted background screening
- Spelling differences between passport, degree and marriage certificate
- Bringing a family member's records to Singapore without an apostille and then needing them couriered back to India
A short call with the receiving office or employer before you start usually avoids all four.
Before you courier
- Originals, unlaminated
- Passport copy
- English translation for any document in an Indian language
- Company papers signed by the authorised signatory
Avoid sending papers to the Singapore High Commission for legalization unless the receiving office asks for it in writing.
