MBA Certificate Apostille and Attestation, Including PGDM Diplomas
An MBA certificate apostille is what makes an Indian management degree usable for a job, a work permit or further study in an Apostille country. MBA degrees are awarded by universities, including affiliating, central, deemed and private universities. Many business schools award a PGDM instead, and the difference between the two affects how a receiving office reads your papers.

Can a PGDM be apostilled like an MBA? Yes. A PGDM is an educational document signed by the institute that awards it, so it can be notarised, verified and stamped by the MEA. The route is the same as for an MBA certificate apostille. The open question is acceptance: some employers abroad want proof that the PGDM is treated as equal to an MBA, so check their rules first.
PGDM or MBA: what your certificate actually is
Look at the top of your certificate. If it names a university and says Master of Business Administration, it is a degree. If it names an institute and says Post Graduate Diploma in Management, it is a diploma awarded under AICTE approval.
Both are two-year management programmes, and Indian employers treat them much the same. A foreign government office may not. Some ask whether the qualification is a master's degree. Here the AIU equivalence matters. Business schools whose PGDM has AIU equivalence usually issue a letter or certificate saying so. Keep that letter with your diploma, because an employer may ask for it to be attested as well.

A note on IIM certificates
For many years the IIMs awarded PGDP or PGDM diplomas. After the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, IIMs award degrees in their own name. Graduates from older batches may therefore hold a diploma, while recent graduates hold an MBA. Both can be legalized. Tell us which one you hold so we can describe it correctly on the forms.
How an MBA certificate apostille is obtained
The process starts with the signature on the certificate. On the Delhi route, a Delhi notary attests the original, the SDM checks the notary, and the MEA issues the apostille. It is accepted for certificates from any state and usually takes 2 to 3 working days.
The state route sends the degree to the education or HRD department of the state where the university is. Some Gulf employers ask for it by name. The e-Sanad route works only where the university has joined e-Sanad; it checks the record online and needs a passport copy. A PGDM from an autonomous institute may not fit the state or e-Sanad routes, which is one reason we mostly use the Delhi route for diplomas.
Delhi route, all-inclusive: Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document, covering notary, SDM, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. Courier and embassy fees are extra.

Who asks managers for legalized degrees
Gulf countries are the biggest source of requests. A sales manager or finance head on a UAE or Qatar visa often needs the degree attested before the job title is entered on the permit. Banks and consulting firms in Saudi Arabia and Oman, now Apostille countries, ask for the apostille.
Elsewhere, the request comes from universities admitting you to a doctorate or second master's, from immigration points systems, and from employers who verify qualifications before a senior hire. In each case the stamp confirms the signature. It says nothing about the quality of the programme or your grades.
Senior hires sometimes face background checks run by screening firms that contact your business school directly. That check is separate from legalization. Answer the school's verification emails promptly, because a stalled background check can delay a visa even when every stamp is in place.
Route by destination
- Apostille only: UK, USA, Canada, Australia, most of Europe, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Turkey. See MEA apostille in India.
- MEA attestation plus embassy: UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Iraq and Jordan. The UAE adds an online MOFA step; our UAE fees page sets it out.
- China: MEA attestation and the Chinese Embassy, since India and China do not use the apostille between them.
- Germany: no legalization of Indian documents; the German Embassy may verify instead.
When to start, and in what order
Managers often learn about attestation late, after the offer letter arrives. Start as soon as the employer shares its document list. The Delhi route usually takes 2 to 3 working days at our end, but courier time and any embassy step come on top.
Do the work in one batch. If the employer wants your MBA and your bachelor's degree, send both together. Each document is stamped separately, yet a single parcel means one courier each way and one quote. If you are still waiting for your final MBA degree, ask the employer whether a provisional certificate will do for now. Many accept it for the visa and ask for the final degree later.
For admissions abroad, check whether the university wants the MBA certificate apostille on the degree, the transcript, or both. Some ask for both, and a sealed transcript envelope cannot be stamped.
Documents to include in your parcel
- Original MBA degree or PGDM diploma
- AIU equivalence letter for a PGDM, if the employer asks for it
- Mark sheets or transcript, if required
- Your bachelor's degree, since many employers want the full chain
- Passport copy and the employer's checklist
If a Gulf office needs an Arabic version, we can arrange certified translation alongside the attestation, so both come back in the same parcel.
Courier the parcel to our New Ashok Nagar office, or drop it off if you are in Delhi NCR. We return everything by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier and quote per document in writing before work begins.
Problems that hold up management degrees
- An executive or online MBA certificate that does not show the mode of study, when the employer has rules about it.
- A PGDM sent for a country that insists on a university degree, with no equivalence letter.
- A degree laminated for safekeeping. Laminated papers cannot be stamped.
- A name mismatch between the degree and passport.
- Ordering an MBA certificate apostille for the UAE, which needs embassy attestation instead.

MBA Certificate apostille FAQs
Is an MBA certificate apostille valid in every country?
It is valid in Hague Apostille Convention countries, about 130 parties. Non-member countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait need MEA attestation followed by embassy attestation.
Does the apostille say my PGDM equals an MBA?
No. The apostille only confirms the signature of the official in the chain. Equivalence is a separate question answered by the AIU or the employer's own rules.
Can I attest my AIU equivalence letter?
If the receiving office asks for it, we can check whether it can be processed as a separate document. Send it with your diploma so we can advise.
My MBA was through distance learning. Can it be attested?
Yes, if the certificate is issued and signed by the university. Some foreign employers have their own rules on distance degrees, so check acceptance before you start.
How many documents do I need to attest for a Gulf job?
Usually your highest degree, sometimes with your bachelor's degree. Each document is attested and charged separately, so follow the employer's list.
Do I need to visit Delhi?
No. Courier the originals to our office and we return them by tracked courier.
Does the MBA certificate apostille need a translation?
Indian degrees are usually in English, so most Apostille countries accept them as they are. If the receiving office wants Arabic, French or another language, we can arrange certified translation.
