How do I get an unmarried certificate in AP? Apply to the Tahsildar of your mandal with an application, your sworn affidavit of single status, ID and address proof. Some offices also ask for a local enquiry report. The certificate is not listed as a standard MeeSeva revenue service in the district catalogues we checked, so confirm the format with your mandal office. An unmarried certificate Andhra Pradesh revenue officers sign can then be apostilled by the MEA.
Why a registry abroad wants this paper
A marriage office in Europe, the Gulf or Southeast Asia has no way to search Indian marriage records. It therefore asks the person marrying to prove that no earlier marriage exists. Telugu families often meet this requirement when a son or daughter working in the USA, UK, Australia or Germany plans to register a marriage there. Spouse visas and some long-stay permits raise the same question.
The paper goes by many names: unmarried certificate, single status certificate, bachelorhood certificate, or a no impediment declaration. Our main single status certificate page explains how these names overlap.

Unmarried certificate Andhra Pradesh: where to apply
Revenue certificates in AP are delivered through MeeSeva centres and the village and ward secretariats. We reviewed the official revenue services list of Krishna district. It covers income, integrated (caste, nativity and date of birth), residence, family member and no earning member certificates. A standalone unmarried certificate was not on it.
In practice, applicants write to the Tahsildar of their mandal. The officer may rely on your affidavit and a report from the Village Revenue Officer before signing a letter that confirms your status. Some districts send such requests to the RDO. Because formats vary, ask your mandal office or the nearest secretariat what they issue before you travel.
Do not mix this up with the Family Member Certificate. That one lists the members of a family for pension and welfare purposes. It does not certify that you are unmarried.
What to carry to the mandal office
- A written application addressed to the Tahsildar.
- An affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper stating that you have never married, or that you are divorced or widowed and not remarried.
- Aadhaar card and passport copy, so the name spelling matches.
- Proof of address in the mandal.
- Birth proof such as an SSC certificate.
- Where asked, statements from parents or two local witnesses.
If you live abroad, a parent can usually ask at the office whether a representative may file for you. The affidavit still has to be signed by you.

When the affidavit alone is enough
Many foreign registries and embassies accept a sworn affidavit of single status instead of an officer's certificate. That saves you a trip to the mandal office. INFINITYGRO can draft the affidavit in Delhi, have it notarised and then take it through the SDM and the MEA. You sign it, either at our office or after we courier it to you.
Check the destination's checklist first. A few registries insist on a certificate signed by a government officer, and an affidavit will be returned.
From Tahsildar letter to MEA Apostille
The Ministry of External Affairs does not verify what your certificate says. It verifies the signature of the Indian officer who authenticated it. So the paper first needs an authentication that the MEA recognises:
- Delhi route. A Delhi notary, then the SDM in Delhi, then the MEA. Foreign offices commonly accept this for applicants from any state, including AP.
- State route. The General Administration Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh countersigns, then the MEA. Use this only if your registry or embassy names it.
The MEA then adds an Apostille (Rs 50 government fee) for Hague Convention countries or normal attestation for the rest. Read more on our MEA Apostille page.
Which countries need more than the Apostille
The USA, UK, Canada, Australia, most European states, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Turkey accept the MEA Apostille as final. Vietnam joins the list from 11 September 2026.
The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Iraq and Jordan need MEA attestation followed by their own embassy legalization in New Delhi; the UAE also adds an online MOFA step. China does not accept Indian Apostilles. Germany does not legalize Indian documents and may instead have its embassy verify them.
Telugu text and translation
Mandal offices often issue letters in Telugu or in both Telugu and English. An unmarried certificate Andhra Pradesh officers write only in Telugu is still a valid Indian public document. A Telugu letter can still be apostilled, but a registry in Europe or Latin America will want a certified translation into its own language. We arrange that alongside the legalization, so the papers travel as one set.

Unmarried Certificate (Andhra Pradesh) apostille FAQs
Can I apply for an unmarried certificate on the MeeSeva portal?
We did not find it as a listed MeeSeva revenue service in the official district catalogue we checked. Ask your mandal office or village secretariat. Many applicants use a notarised affidavit instead.
How long does the Tahsildar take?
There is no published timeline that we could verify. It depends on the office and on whether a field enquiry is done. Our legalization usually takes 2 to 3 working days after we receive the paper.
Does the unmarried certificate Andhra Pradesh issues expire?
The certificate has no fixed expiry in India, but registries abroad often want one issued within the last few months. Get it close to your wedding date.
Can my parents get it for me while I am in the USA?
Some offices allow a representative to file. You still sign the affidavit, which can be done abroad and couriered back. Ask your mandal office first.
I am divorced. What should the certificate say?
It should say divorced and not remarried. Keep the divorce decree ready, because the registry will usually want that legalized too.
Is the apostille stamped in Andhra Pradesh?
No. Apostilles are issued only by the Ministry of External Affairs through its outsourced centres. We handle that step from Delhi.
