MSME Certificate Apostille: Legalizing Your Udyam Registration
An MSME certificate apostille makes your Udyam Registration Certificate usable before a foreign buyer, tender board or bank. The certificate is generated online on the Udyam Registration portal (udyamregistration.gov.in), the Government of India system for micro, small and medium enterprises. INFINITYGRO turns that e-certificate into a signed document a chamber of commerce and the Ministry of External Affairs can authenticate.

MEA attestation stamp and Apostille sticker
What is needed for an MSME certificate apostille? Print the Udyam Registration Certificate from the portal, have the authorised signatory sign and stamp it, and get it notarised where needed. A recognised chamber of commerce authenticates it, and MEA then issues the apostille. That completes an MSME certificate apostille for Apostille countries. Embassy-route countries such as the UAE need MEA attestation and embassy legalization instead.
Udyam registration in brief
The Udyam portal classifies a business as micro, small or medium. Since 1 April 2021, PAN and GSTIN are required for registration, and investment and turnover figures are drawn from government databases linked to them.
The process is paperless and based on self-declaration. No documents are uploaded. Once registered, the enterprise gets a permanent Udyam Registration Number and an e-certificate. The portal says registration needs no renewal and that no fee is payable to anyone for it.
The certificate carries a dynamic QR code. Scanning it opens a page on the portal with the enterprise's details. Foreign reviewers increasingly use this to confirm the certificate is live.

Who abroad asks for an MSME certificate
Outside India, MSME status rarely gives you a legal benefit by itself. It is asked for as evidence that you are a registered, classified Indian manufacturer or service provider.
- Overseas buyers running supplier due diligence.
- Government tenders in the Gulf and Africa that request registration proofs from foreign bidders.
- Trade fair organisers and buyer-seller programmes for small exporters.
- Foreign banks and distributors reviewing an Indian partner.
It is usually legalized along with the GST certificate and the certificate of incorporation.
Check these details before you print
Udyam data comes partly from your own declaration and partly from PAN and GST records. Before legalization, compare the certificate against your other papers.
- Enterprise name matches your GST certificate and invoices exactly.
- Address of the plant or office is current.
- Classification (micro, small or medium) reflects the latest update on the portal.
- Major activity, manufacturing or services, is correct.
If anything is wrong, update the record on the Udyam portal first and print the new certificate. A legalized certificate with old data cannot be corrected later without starting again.

Turning the e-certificate into an attestable document
Notaries and chambers stamp paper, so the e-certificate is printed and signed before it moves forward.
- Download the certificate from the Udyam portal and print all pages clearly, with the QR code readable.
- The authorised signatory signs and stamps the printout with the business seal.
- A notary attests it where the chamber or destination requires that.
Print in colour if possible so the QR code and seal stay sharp after several stamps are added. Keep a spare signed copy in your office in case the buyer later asks for a second set.
Use a clean print without lamination. For companies and LLPs, the signatory should be a director, designated partner or a person authorised by board resolution. We confirm in writing exactly what your chosen chamber and destination expect before you send anything.
The MSME certificate apostille route through MEA
For Hague Convention countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Turkey and most of Europe (Germany excepted), the route is short.
- Chamber of Commerce authentication by a recognised body such as FICCI, ASSOCHAM, PHD Chamber or the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
- MEA Apostille from the CPV Division, submitted through its authorised outsourced centre.
MEA checks the authenticating officer's signature. It does not review your Udyam data. The MEA fee is Rs 50 per document; the chamber charges its own fee. Vietnam joins the Apostille list from 11 September 2026. Details are on our MEA apostille page.
Gulf, China and other embassy-route countries
Where the destination is not an Apostille member, MEA gives normal attestation (free) and the embassy legalizes after that.
UAE
Chamber, MEA attestation, UAE Embassy in New Delhi, then UAE MOFA attestation in the UAE.
Qatar, Kuwait and others
Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan and Yemen follow chamber, MEA attestation, then the embassy.
China and Germany
China needs a red-sticker notary first, then chamber, MEA attestation and the Chinese Embassy. Germany does not legalize Indian documents and may verify them through its embassy instead.
See our embassy attestation page for how each step is handled.
Sending your Udyam certificate to us
Send the signed printout, the name of the destination country and the purpose, for example a tender or a distributor agreement. If you are legalizing several company papers, send them together so names and signatures can be checked across the set.
Delhi NCR clients can drop documents at our New Ashok Nagar office. Clients elsewhere courier them in, and we return them by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier. There is no home pickup. You get a written per-document quote first, with courier charged extra. Contact us to start.
INFINITYGRO is a private agency. We do not issue or modify Udyam registrations.
Planning an MSME certificate apostille around a tender
Tender deadlines rarely move for paperwork. If your MSME certificate apostille is part of a bid, plan it with the rest of the bundle rather than on its own.
- Read the tender wording. Some ask for legalization of every registration proof, others only of the incorporation document.
- Check whether the buyer wants the original legalized paper by courier or a scanned copy first.
- Ask whether a translation must also be legalized, since that adds a separate document to the chain.
We cannot promise timelines that depend on chambers, MEA or embassies. We can tell you the steps and documents in advance so nothing is missing when you submit. For broader company papers, see commercial document attestation.
Where MSME certificates go wrong
- Using an old Udyog Aadhaar or pre-Udyam certificate instead of the current Udyam certificate.
- Faded print where the QR code cannot be scanned.
- A name on the certificate that does not match the GST record or invoices.
- Signature by someone who is not the authorised signatory.
- Apostille obtained for a UAE or Qatar buyer, who needs embassy legalization.
If your buyer needs the certificate translated, we arrange certified translation into Arabic, French, Spanish and other languages.

MSME Certificate apostille FAQs
Is the Udyam certificate the same as the MSME certificate?
Yes. Udyam Registration is the current MSME registration, and the Udyam Registration Certificate is what people mean by an MSME certificate.
Does the Udyam certificate expire?
The portal states the registration number is permanent and does not need renewal. You should still update your details on the portal when they change.
Can a foreign party verify it without attestation?
They can scan the QR code, but many tender boards and banks still require formal legalization.
Is an MSME certificate apostille enough for Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia is an Apostille country, so the apostille route normally applies.
Is the Udyam certificate digitally signed?
It is an online e-certificate. For attestation we work from a printout signed by your authorised signatory, so the signature question does not hold up the process.
Can you handle the MSME certificate apostille for a sole proprietor?
Yes. The proprietor signs the printout as the authorised signatory, and the route is the same as for a company.
What fees apply?
MEA charges Rs 50 per apostille. Chamber and embassy fees are extra. INFINITYGRO quotes per document in writing before you send anything.
