Three ways to process a degree certificate apostille in Gujarat
The right path depends on what the receiving university or employer abroad will accept.
- Delhi route. After notary attestation, the SDM in Delhi confirms the notary and the MEA then applies its stamp. Most foreign universities and employers accept this for Gujarat degrees.
- State route. The degree goes to the General Administration Department in Gandhinagar for verification, then to the MEA. Choose this only when the foreign body insists on a state check.
- e-Sanad route. If your university is connected to the MEA's e-Sanad system, verification and the apostille can be done online. Keep a passport copy ready, because the passport number is entered.

Grade cards, transcripts and the provisional pass
Foreign admission offices often ask for more than the final degree. Each paper is a separate document for the MEA.
- Every semester or year mark sheet gets its own apostille.
- A consolidated transcript issued by the university is also apostilled on its own.
- A provisional certificate is a temporary pass document. It is different from the convocation degree, and some countries will not accept it once the final degree is due.
- Migration and medium of instruction letters can be processed too if they carry a signature from the university office.
Count your documents before you courier them. The fee is charged per document, not per set.

What to put in the courier envelope
- The original degree certificate, since a photocopy cannot carry the MEA stamp.
- Original mark sheets or transcripts, if they also need the stamp.
- A clear copy of your passport, needed for e-Sanad and helpful for name checks.
- A note naming the destination country and the purpose.
A laminated degree cannot be stamped on the back. If your name on the degree differs from the passport, an affidavit is needed. Degrees printed only in Gujarati may need a certified translation, which we can arrange through our translation service.
Check the destination country first
An apostille works only in countries that are party to the Hague Apostille Convention and have not objected to India. The UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Oman and most of Europe accept it.
An Indian apostille has no effect in China or Germany. The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt are not members, so a Gujarat degree for those countries needs MEA attestation and then embassy legalization. We handle that as well through our embassy attestation service.
What the stamp proves
The MEA checks the signature and seal of the authenticating officer. It does not judge your marks or the course content. That is why the earlier step, by notary and SDM or by the state office, has to be clean.
Since 2012 the MEA has not accepted papers from individuals at its counter. Documents go in through authorised outsourced centres, which is the part we manage for you.

Yes. A GTU degree is treated like any other university degree. It goes through the Delhi route, the state route or e-Sanad if GTU records are available there.
Is a degree certificate apostille in Gujarat needed for a student visa?
Many universities abroad ask for it at admission or at enrolment. Some ask only for transcripts. Check the offer letter, then tell us which papers to stamp.
Can I hand over my Gujarat degree in Delhi?
