What are the steps for apostilling a Maharashtra university degree? For a degree certificate apostille in Maharashtra, we usually take the original through a notary and the SDM in Delhi, then file it with the MEA. When a foreign body asks for state verification, the Higher and Technical Education Department in Mumbai checks it first. Some universities also work through e-Sanad, which needs your passport number.
Who signed your degree
Maharashtra degrees come from a long list of universities. The signature on yours decides how it is checked, so start by reading the bottom of the certificate.

- Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, awards medical, dental and nursing degrees.

Choosing a route for degree certificate apostille in Maharashtra
Delhi route
Notary, then SDM verification in Delhi, then the MEA apostille. It suits most admissions offices and employers abroad, whatever the issuing state.
Mumbai state route
The Higher and Technical Education Department at Mantralaya verifies the degree before the MEA. We suggest it only if the receiving body names state verification in writing.
e-Sanad
Where a university has joined the MEA's e-Sanad platform, both verification and apostille happen online. Not every Maharashtra university is connected, so we check before choosing this.

Building the full academic set
Foreign universities rarely stop at the degree. Plan the whole set in one go.
- Semester mark sheets or grade cards, each apostilled as its own document.
- A university transcript, which is a separate paper from the mark sheets.
- The final convocation degree. A provisional certificate is a stopgap document and is treated differently from the degree.
- Optional extras such as a medium of instruction letter.
Universities in the UK and Canada often say exactly which of these they want. Following their list closely avoids paying for stamps that nobody will read.

From Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad

- Mumbai: University of Mumbai and IIT Bombay degrees, often for the USA and Europe.

Germany, China and the Gulf
Germany objected to India joining the Apostille Convention, so an Indian apostille is not used there. German offices verify Indian documents through their own embassy process. China also does not accept it.
Gulf countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, along with Egypt, have not joined the Convention. A Maharashtra degree for those countries needs MEA attestation and embassy legalization, which our embassy attestation team handles. For Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain, the apostille is enough.
Packing list for your Maharashtra degree
- The original convocation degree, kept flat in a stiff folder.
- Every original mark sheet or grade card that the foreign body has asked for.
- The transcript, if your university has issued one in a sealed or signed form.
- A copy of the passport photo page.
- A short note with your phone number, the country and the purpose, such as admission or a work visa.

Condition of the original
The MEA stamps originals only. A laminated certificate has no usable back, so it cannot be stamped. If the spelling on your degree differs from your passport, an affidavit links the two names.
Older degrees from some Marathwada and Vidarbha colleges carry Marathi text. A certified translation may be needed for the receiving country. We can arrange that through our translation service.
The MEA step in plain terms
The ministry checks that the verifying officer's signature is real. It does not look at your grades. Since July 2012 it has taken papers only through authorised outsourced centres, and we file through those centres on your behalf.
Once the stamp is on, keep a scan of the stamped degree and transcript before you hand them over abroad. Many clients find it useful when a second university or employer later asks for the same papers.

Is the Aurangabad university name change a problem?
No. Your degree shows the name in use when it was issued. It is still a valid original and goes through the same process.
Do MUHS medical degrees need anything extra?
The degree goes through the normal route. A medical council abroad may also want the internship certificate and registration, which are separate documents.
Can I use a degree certificate apostille in Maharashtra for Canada?
Yes. Canada is a Convention member, and the apostille is accepted for study and immigration documents there.
Will you take my degree to Mantralaya?
