Passport office PCC or a UT police certificate?
The islands have their own police force under the Union Territory administration. A certificate issued by a police officer there is a local document. Its signature needs checking before the MEA will act on it.
- Passport office PCC: no notary needed, it goes to the MEA as it is.
- Police certificate: notary and SDM in Delhi, or the Assistant Secretary (Home) in Sri Vijaya Puram, then the MEA.
When a foreign checklist names the issuer, follow it. If it does not, ask whether the passport office PCC will do, since it takes fewer steps.
Look at the letterhead and the designation under the signature to tell them apart. A passport officer's designation means the direct route. A police rank, such as Superintendent of Police, means the longer route.
