Where do Lakshadweep residents apply for a passport PCC? Lakshadweep falls under the Regional Passport Office, Cochin. You apply on passportindia.gov.in, and the Kavaratti Head Post Office has a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra. The PCC is signed by a passport officer, so a PCC apostille in Lakshadweep goes straight to the MEA. Our charge is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document.
RPO Cochin and the Kavaratti centre
The Regional Passport Office in Cochin covers six Kerala districts and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. For island residents, the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra at the Kavaratti Head Post Office accepts passport applications.
You apply for a PCC on passportindia.gov.in and choose an appointment. Carry your current passport and address proof. The office may ask the local police to confirm your details. The PCC is then signed by a passport officer.
If no island slot suits you, a Seva Kendra on the Kerala mainland under RPO Cochin is another option. Many island residents combine the appointment with a trip to Kochi.
Every PCC from RPO Cochin, whether printed for an island or mainland applicant, carries the same passport officer signature that the MEA accepts.

Certificates from Lakshadweep Police
Some employers abroad accept a character or clearance certificate from local police. In Lakshadweep, ask the police station for your island how to apply, which form to use and what fee applies.
Such a certificate is a local document. Lakshadweep is not in the MEA's list of UT verification offices, so the Delhi route is used. A notary attests it, an SDM in Delhi verifies it, and then the MEA adds the apostille.
Immigration offices usually ask for the passport PCC. Check before you apply for a police certificate.
Our steps for PCC apostille in Lakshadweep
- Send a photo of the PCC on WhatsApp so we can confirm the type.
- Courier the original, directly or through a relative on the mainland.
- For a passport PCC, we file it with the MEA via an authorised outsourced centre.
- For a police paper, notary attestation and Delhi SDM checks come before the MEA.
- The apostilled PCC returns by tracked courier.
Once we hold the original, our part usually takes 2 to 3 working days. More on PCCs in general is on our PCC apostille page.
Kavaratti applicants and island logistics
Kavaratti residents can use the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra on the island. Residents of other islands may travel to Kavaratti or to the Kerala mainland for the appointment.
After you receive the PCC, send it to us by a courier service, or hand it to someone travelling to Kochi who can courier it from there. Sea and air links can slow things down, so allow extra days.
Put the PCC in a stiff, waterproof envelope with a passport copy and your phone number. We confirm receipt on WhatsApp the day it arrives.
We do not collect documents in person on the islands.
Gulf jobs and other destinations
Work in the Gulf is common for island families. The UAE, Qatar and Kuwait are not Apostille members. For them, a PCC needs MEA attestation and then legalisation by the embassy. Our UAE charges page explains this.
The apostille is accepted in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain. It also works for the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and most of Europe, but not Germany or China.
Passport PCC or police certificate?
The visa checklist usually tells you which one to get. Look for words like "Regional Passport Office" or "passport authority". Those mean the passport PCC. If it mentions "local police", a police certificate may be enough.
For immigration and long-term visas, the passport PCC is the safer pick. For a PCC apostille in Lakshadweep, it also avoids the extra notary and SDM step, which helps when courier time is already long.
Not sure? Send us the checklist on WhatsApp and we will read it with you.
If you already work overseas
Islanders already living abroad usually get a PCC from the Indian embassy or consulate in that country. That certificate follows the mission's rules, and the receiving country may accept it without an Indian apostille. Ask the receiving office first.
If they still want a PCC issued in India, a family member can help with the local steps and send the original to us. We can return the apostilled PCC to that family member, who then posts it on to you abroad.
Keep in mind that a PCC carries your name and passport details. Share it only with people you trust, and track every courier leg.
Keep an eye on the date
Foreign offices usually want a recent PCC. Each sets its own limit, so ask them first and write it down. Because travel from the islands adds time, apply only when your file is nearly ready. A PCC that expires while in transit must be replaced, with a new apostille.
Keep the PCC flat and unlaminated, and check that the name and passport number match your passport exactly. A mismatch caught on the island is easier to fix than one found in Delhi.
