PCC Apostille in Chandigarh for Jobs and Visas Abroad

PCC apostille in Chandigarh is simpler than most people expect, because the city has its own Regional Passport Office. A passport PCC from RPO Chandigarh goes directly to the MEA. A certificate from Chandigarh Police takes a longer path through notary and SDM, or the UT Home department.

Quick answer

Do I need a notary for a PCC from RPO Chandigarh? No. A passport PCC is signed by a passport officer, so PCC apostille in Chandigarh for that certificate goes straight to the MEA. You only need a notary and SDM if your certificate was issued by Chandigarh Police. In that case the UT Home department is the other option before the MEA. The MEA charges Rs 50 per document.

The Regional Passport Office in Chandigarh

The MEA lists a Regional Passport Office in Chandigarh. It handles residents of the city, and it is also the regional office closest to many people in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal.

To get a passport PCC, apply on passportindia.gov.in and book a Passport Seva Kendra appointment. Police verification follows at your address. The certificate is issued by the passport office and signed by a passport officer.

Check jurisdiction for your exact address on the portal. If you have just moved to the city, your file may still sit with your old office.

Bring originals of your address proof to the appointment. Gaps or errors in the address can slow police verification, which is usually the longest part of getting the PCC.

PCC apostille in Chandigarh without notary or SDM

The MEA verifies the signature of the officer who signed the document. It can check a passport officer's signature itself. So for a passport PCC there is nothing to add before the apostille.

  1. Get the original PCC from RPO Chandigarh.
  2. Courier it to our Delhi office.
  3. We file it at the MEA through an authorised centre.
  4. We return it by tracked courier.

The MEA apostille page explains the system in more detail.

Chandigarh Police certificates

Sometimes a foreign employer, university or licensing body asks for a certificate from the local police instead of the passport office. Chandigarh Police offers verification and character certificate services for residents. Apply for the precise document your instructions name. If the instructions are vague, write to the receiving office and ask them to confirm.

This certificate is signed by a police officer. Before the MEA will apostille it, a notary and the SDM in Delhi attest it. The other path is authentication by the Home department of the Chandigarh Administration. After either, the MEA adds the apostille.

Chandigarh applicants and the tricity

Most of our Chandigarh clients courier their PCC to us at C-5 A/2, New Ashok Nagar, Delhi 110096. Some ask a relative in Delhi to bring it in. We return it by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier and do not collect from homes.

Mohali and Panchkula residents may also hold a PCC from RPO Chandigarh, since jurisdiction follows the passport office, not the state. The apostille route for a passport PCC does not change. A local police certificate from Mohali or Panchkula, however, comes from Punjab or Haryana police. Its state route then runs through that state's own authority, not the Chandigarh Home department.

Which certificate the destination expects

Immigration and visa offices often specify the passport PCC. Certain employers and professional bodies ask for a local police certificate. Look at the exact words in your instructions and follow them. When unsure, ask the receiving office in writing so you have their answer on record.

The UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain accept the apostille, as do most European countries. The UAE, Qatar and Kuwait need MEA attestation and embassy legalization. See our embassy attestation service and UAE charges.

Mistakes that cost Chandigarh applicants time

The first common mistake is applying for the wrong certificate. A passport PCC and a Chandigarh Police certificate look similar to many people, but the MEA treats them very differently. Confirm which one is wanted before you apply.

The second is a name that does not match the passport. Initials, missing middle names and changed surnames all cause trouble. An affidavit can help, but a correct certificate is better.

The third is damage. Folding the certificate many times, writing on it, laminating it or stapling papers to it can all make an apostille harder. Keep it flat in a clear sleeve and post it in a stiff envelope.

Dates and deadlines

Receiving offices usually want a PCC issued recently. They each set their own limit, and it varies widely. Ask the office directly before you apply.

Once your original reaches us, the Delhi route usually takes 2 to 3 working days. Add courier time between Chandigarh and Delhi in both directions. If the PCC ages past the limit, a new certificate and a new apostille are needed. An apostille cannot be transferred from an old PCC to a new one.

Applicants already abroad sometimes apply through the Indian mission there. That certificate is issued outside India, so speak to us before sending it.
