Nagaland's first Passport Seva Kendra opened on 15 January 2016 at the New DC Office Complex in Chümoukedima, close to Dimapur. Before that, residents had to travel to Guwahati. The centre works under the Regional Passport Office Guwahati, which covers six northeastern states.
To get a passport PCC, register on passportindia.gov.in, select the PCC service, pay online and book a slot. Bring your passport and proof of your present address. Applicants from Kohima, Mokokchung or Tuensang usually travel to Chümoukedima for the appointment.
Keep the application reference number and payment receipt. If the PCC is delayed, these help you follow up with the PSK or with RPO Guwahati. If your passport was issued elsewhere, police verification may be needed before the PCC is printed, which can add time.
Book a slot that leaves time for the road journey if you are coming from a distant district.

Character certificates from Nagaland Police

Name mismatches and the age of the PCC
Tribal and clan names are sometimes written differently across documents. Compare the PCC with your passport letter by letter. If they differ, you will need an affidavit before the apostille.
Receiving offices often want a PCC issued recently. Ask how old it may be before booking, because a PCC that has expired for their purpose cannot be revived by an apostille.
The MEA confirms only the signature on the PCC. It does not re-check your police record.
Check your date of birth and father's name on the PCC as well. A wrong detail cannot be fixed by the apostille, so ask the issuing office to correct it first.
For applicants in Kohima
Kohima residents book at the Chümoukedima PSK for the passport PCC. If a police certificate needs state verification, the Home Department in Kohima handles it.
