PCC Apostille in Assam: Passport and Police Certificates
Getting a PCC apostille in Assam depends first on who signed your police clearance. A PCC from the Regional Passport Office in Guwahati can go directly to the Ministry of External Affairs. A report from the Assam Police, issued under a Superintendent of Police or the Police Commissioner of Guwahati, needs an extra verification step first.

Which police clearance from Assam can be apostilled fastest? The passport PCC is the quickest option for a PCC apostille in Assam. It is signed by a passport officer at RPO Guwahati, so it skips the notary and SDM and goes straight to the MEA. A verification report from the Assam Police portal follows the personal document route, through Delhi or the Home and Political Department, before the MEA.
Passport PCC or police report: know which one you hold
Assam residents can end up with two quite different papers, and both get called a PCC.
Passport PCC
You apply on passportindia.gov.in, book a slot at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office PSK, and the certificate is issued by the passport office. A passport officer signs it.
State police verification
The Assam Police offer verification services through the Assam Police Sewa Setu portal. The state notified these under its Right to Public Services law in 2023, with the Police Commissioner of Guwahati for Kamrup Metropolitan or the district SP as the designated officer. You download the outcome from the portal once the police station finishes its enquiry.

RPO Guwahati and the passport centres in Assam
RPO Guwahati sits in A DEE Tower on NH-37 at Lalmati. It covers six northeastern states, from Assam to Nagaland.
Inside Assam, appointments are held at the Guwahati PSK and at Post Office Passport Seva Kendras in Silchar, Kokrajhar, Mangaldoi, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Diphu. Pick the centre nearest your address. The office that issues the PCC does not change how we process it for apostille.
PCC apostille in Assam, step by step
- Send us the original PCC with a passport copy.
- For a passport PCC, we file it with the MEA through an authorised outsourced centre.
- For an Assam Police report, we first get it notarised and verified by the Delhi SDM. The other option is verification by the Home and Political Department at Dispur.
- The MEA checks the officer's signature and attaches the apostille.
- We courier the document back to you.
The Delhi route usually takes 2 to 3 working days once we hold the document. The MEA fee is Rs 50 per document. Our all-inclusive Delhi route charge is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document, with courier extra. More detail is on our PCC apostille page.
Which destinations ask for which PCC
Most work visa and residence applicants abroad are asked for the passport PCC, because a central authority issues it. A local police report is more often asked for by employers or for specific local purposes. Always follow the exact wording in your checklist.
Some applicants need both. A sponsor may want the passport PCC for the visa file and a police verification letter for a job offer. In that case we treat them as two documents, each with its own apostille. Individuals cannot submit at the MEA counter, since the ministry accepts papers only through its authorised outsourced centres, so we file both together.
Gulf destinations such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait do not accept the apostille and need embassy attestation. See our UAE attestation charges for that path.
Many receiving offices want a recent PCC. Ask them how old the certificate may be before you apply.
For applicants in Guwahati and Dispur
City residents usually attend the Guwahati PSK for a passport PCC. For a police report, the Police Commissionerate of Guwahati handles applications from Kamrup Metropolitan through Sewa Setu.
When the state route is chosen, the Home and Political Department in Dispur is the authority. Couriering the original to our Delhi office is the usual choice, since we have no pickup service in Assam.
Applying for the passport PCC from Assam
Register on passportindia.gov.in and choose the Police Clearance Certificate service. Pay online and book a slot at your chosen centre. Carry your passport and address proof on the day.
If your present address falls under a different passport office than the one that issued your passport, the process may take longer, because police verification can be needed. Plan for this if you have recently moved to Assam from another state. Once the PCC is printed and signed, it is ready to be sent for a PCC apostille in Assam without any further local stamps.
What the apostille adds and what it does not
The apostille is a certificate attached by the MEA. It confirms that the signature of the passport officer or verifying authority is genuine. The MEA does not re-check your record or the police enquiry.
Once the apostille is on, do not separate the pages or add stamps. A receiving office in a Hague Convention country such as the UK, Canada, Australia, Oman or Bahrain can then accept the PCC without embassy legalization. If a translation is required in the destination language, we can arrange that too.
Common reasons a PCC gets stuck
- Sending a printout or photocopy instead of the original
- A name spelling that differs from the passport
- A PCC that the receiving office considers too old
- Choosing apostille for a country that needs embassy legalization
