PCC Apostille in Jammu and Kashmir for Work and Study Abroad

PCC apostille in Jammu and Kashmir is handled differently depending on whether a passport officer or a police officer signed the certificate. The MEA lists a Regional Passport Office in Jammu and a Passport Office in Srinagar. Their PCCs go straight to the MEA, while a J&K Police certificate takes the notary and SDM route first.

Quick answer

Can a PCC from the Srinagar passport office go straight for apostille? Yes. A passport officer signs it, so PCC apostille in Jammu and Kashmir for a passport PCC needs no notary or SDM step. Our team submits it to the MEA through one of its authorised centres. A certificate from J&K Police is different. It needs notary and SDM attestation in Delhi, or the J&K Home Department, before the MEA.

Two passport offices for one territory

The MEA's list of passport offices shows two in the Union Territory. The Regional Passport Office is in Jammu. The Passport Office in Srinagar serves the Kashmir side.

When you apply for a PCC on passportindia.gov.in, your address decides the office. The portal books your appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra and passes your file to the police for verification. J&K Police carry out the check at your address.

Once verification is clear, the passport office issues the PCC. A passport officer signs it.

Give a phone number you will keep and an address that matches your proof. Verification goes faster when the police can find you easily. Keep your file number to track progress online.

PCC apostille in Jammu and Kashmir for passport PCCs

The MEA can verify a passport officer's signature on its own records. That removes the need for any other attestation.

  1. Collect the original PCC from RPO Jammu or the Srinagar office.
  2. Courier it to our Delhi office.
  3. We submit it to the MEA through an authorised centre.
  4. We return it with the apostille.

See the MEA apostille page for how the system works. No stamp from any other office is needed.

Certificates issued by J&K Police

Some foreign employers and licensing bodies prefer a certificate from local police. J&K Police issues verification and character certificates to residents through its own service channels. Apply for the exact certificate your instructions describe. Keep the receipt, since you may need to follow up with the police station.

A police officer signs this certificate, so the MEA needs an extra confirmation. On the Delhi route, a notary and the SDM in Delhi attest it before the MEA. On the state route, the Deputy Secretary in the J&K Home Department authenticates it first.

A certificate from a tehsildar or a local representative is not the same as a police certificate. Receiving offices abroad usually ask for one issued by police.

Applicants from Srinagar and Jammu

Srinagar applicants usually deal with the Passport Office in their own city. Jammu applicants deal with the Regional Passport Office there. Both groups then courier the PCC to us in Delhi.

Our office is at C-5 A/2, New Ashok Nagar, Delhi 110096. A relative living in Delhi can drop it off and collect it. We return documents by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier and do not collect from homes.

Students from J&K who study in Delhi often bring their PCC in person. That saves one courier leg. Call ahead so we can confirm the checklist before you come.

Matching the PCC to the destination

Visa and immigration offices often ask for the passport PCC. Some employers, medical councils and local authorities ask for a certificate from local police. The words in your instructions decide which one you need.

The apostille is accepted in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and most of Europe. Gulf countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait are not members of the Convention. A PCC for them needs MEA attestation and embassy legalization. See UAE attestation charges.

Students and workers from J&K

Many J&K residents go abroad for medical study, nursing and work in the Gulf or Europe. Each destination has its own list of papers. Some want only a PCC, while others want a PCC plus educational apostilles.

Send all your documents together if you can. Each one is a separate apostille, but one courier packet saves time and cost.

If you are heading to a Gulf country that does not accept the apostille, tell us early. The process for those countries is different, and we will plan for it from the start.

Planning around validity

Many receiving offices accept a PCC only if it was issued recently. Each sets its own period. Ask the office before you apply so the certificate does not go stale before you submit it.

Once the original reaches us, the Delhi route usually takes 2 to 3 working days. Courier from Jammu or Srinagar adds time each way. If your PCC expires before use, you need a new PCC and a new apostille.

Errors that slow down J&K applicants

A name that differs from the passport is the most common problem. Spelling variations are frequent in names written in more than one script. Check your PCC against the passport the day you collect it.

Only originals can be apostilled. Scans, colour copies and photocopies are refused. Lamination blocks the stamp on the back.

Each PCC is a separate apostille. Our fee is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document, including the Rs 50 MEA fee, with courier extra. We can also arrange certified translation.
