Argentina Apostille for Indian Documents, From State Check to Spanish Translation
An Argentina apostille from India is one MEA sticker that Argentine offices accept in place of embassy legalization. Your document is first checked by the state department, notary or Chamber of Commerce that can vouch for it, and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) then adds the Apostille. In Argentina the paper usually still needs a Spanish translation before a registry, university or court will act on it.

Documents from India for Argentina
Do Indian documents need the Argentine Embassy stamp? No. India and Argentina are both parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so the MEA Apostille is the last step in India. The Argentine Embassy in New Delhi does not need to stamp the paper. Plan for the Spanish translation that Argentine offices normally want after the Argentina apostille, and check whether they want it done by a public translator in Argentina.
Start With the Translation Question
Most Argentine offices work only in Spanish. The question to settle first is who should translate your Indian document. Argentina has a regulated profession of public translators, and many registries, universities and courts there ask for a translation signed by one. Some also want that signature checked by the translators' professional body.
That changes the order of work. In most cases you should get the Argentina apostille in India first and translate the apostilled document afterwards, so the translator covers the Apostille sticker too. If your receiving office accepts a translation made in India, we can arrange a certified Spanish translation here. Ask the office in Argentina before you decide.

The Argentina Apostille Route Step by Step
- State or chamber check. A degree goes to the state education department or the university route that applies. A birth or marriage certificate goes through the state home or GAD department or a notary and SDM. Export papers go to a recognised Chamber of Commerce.
- MEA Apostille. The MEA verifies the authenticating officer's signature and fixes the Apostille. It does not check the content of your document.
- Translation. Spanish translation, in India or by a public translator in Argentina, as the receiving office requires.

Who Sends Indian Documents to Argentina
Requests usually come from three groups. Students and researchers need degrees and transcripts for admission or for having a qualification recognised. Families need birth and marriage certificates for residence, a civil registry entry or a spouse's paperwork. Employees transferred by their company need degrees, experience letters and sometimes a police clearance certificate.
For a degree certificate apostille, the university's name, your name and the year must match across the degree and the transcript, since Argentine reviewers read them together.
Export Papers for Argentine Buyers
Indian exporters selling to Argentina are sometimes asked for apostilled company and shipment papers. Common ones are the certificate of origin, commercial invoice, certificate of incorporation, a power of attorney for a local distributor, and product registration support such as a free sale certificate.
These go through a recognised Chamber of Commerce first and then to the MEA for the Apostille. Make sure the consignee name and invoice numbers match on every paper. See our page on commercial document attestation for the chamber step.
Originals, Copies and Multiple Sets
Argentine offices usually keep what you hand in. If you expect to deal with more than one office, for example a university and a migration office, think about apostilling more than one document. The MEA can apostille a properly certified copy of some documents, and each Apostille is charged separately. Tell us how many offices will need the papers and we will suggest the cleanest way to cover them.
What to Send Us
- The original document, not laminated
- A clear copy of your passport
- For degrees: the transcript or marksheets as well

Mistakes That Cost Time
- Translating before the Apostille, so the sticker is left untranslated
- Sending a laminated certificate, which cannot be stamped
- Name spelled differently on the passport and the degree
- Asking the Argentine Embassy to legalize an apostilled paper, which is not needed
