Birth Certificate Apostille in Arunachal Pradesh
Parents and adults from the state who need a birth certificate apostille in Arunachal start with a certificate signed by the local Registrar of Births and Deaths for the place of birth. That signature is verified either by the Deputy Secretary (Home) in Itanagar or through a notary and SDM in Delhi. After that, the Ministry of External Affairs attaches the apostille.

How does a family in Itanagar get an Arunachal birth certificate ready for a foreign embassy or school? For a birth certificate apostille in Arunachal, send the original registered certificate to us by courier. We have it verified through the Delhi route, or through the Home Department in Itanagar when the receiving office insists on a state check. The MEA then issues the apostille at Rs 50 per document, and we courier the certificate back.
What an Arunachal birth certificate must show
Every birth in the state is registered under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. The certificate carries the registration number, the date of registration and the signature and seal of the registrar. Births in hospitals are normally registered by the institution's registration unit. Births at home are reported to the local registrar for the village or town.
Before an apostille, check four things. The child's name is filled in. The parents' names match their passports. The seal is readable. The paper is not laminated, because the stamp goes on the reverse.

How birth certificate apostille in Arunachal is done
- You courier the original certificate and a passport copy to our office in Delhi.
- We choose the verification path with you. On the Delhi route a notary attests it and the SDM verifies it. On the state route the Deputy Secretary (Home) in Itanagar verifies the registrar's signature.
- We lodge it with the MEA through an authorised outsourced centre, since the ministry does not take papers from individuals at its counter.
- The MEA attaches the apostille and we return the certificate.
Our MEA apostille overview explains the last step in more detail.
Late entries and certificates without a name
Under the national Act, a birth reported more than 21 days late can still be registered, but the steps get stricter with time. After one year an order from a magistrate is required. If your birth was never registered, sort this out with the local registrar before thinking about an apostille.
When a birth was registered before the child was named, the name can be added later at the registration office. Do this first, and collect a new extract with the name printed. Foreign offices often turn away a certificate that says only "male" or "female".
Digital certificates and older paper copies
Since 1 October 2023 the amended Act treats the digital birth certificate as a single proof of date of birth. Registrars now work on the Civil Registration System of the Registrar General of India.
A printed certificate signed by the registrar is what we need for the apostille. If you hold an old handwritten certificate, the receiving office may ask for a fresh computerised copy. The registration unit that holds the original record can usually issue one.
Sending documents from Itanagar
Most of our Arunachal clients live in or near Itanagar, where the Home Department used for the state route is located. Whichever route you choose, the paperwork reaches us by courier.
We do not have a pickup service in Itanagar. Use a tracked courier to our New Ashok Nagar office. We send the apostilled certificate back through Blue Dart or another reputed courier. Families who visit Delhi can also drop it off in person.
Countries that accept the result
An apostilled birth certificate is accepted in Hague Convention countries such as the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia and most of Europe. Typical uses are a child's passport or visa, school admission, residence permits and citizenship by descent.
China and Germany do not accept India's apostille. Non-members such as the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt need MEA attestation and embassy legalization. Our embassy attestation team handles those cases.
If the name on the certificate differs from the passport, prepare an affidavit before sending the file.
Choosing between Itanagar and Delhi verification
The Delhi route suits most families. A notary attests the certificate, and the SDM in Delhi confirms the notary before the MEA stage. It avoids extra trips inside the state and is accepted for most foreign uses.
The state route uses the Deputy Secretary (Home) in Itanagar, who confirms the registrar's signature directly. Some universities, consulates or courts abroad ask for this. If your checklist mentions verification by the state government, tell us early so we can plan the file around it. For a birth certificate apostille in Arunachal, either path ends at the same MEA apostille.
Before you post: checklist and how to begin
- The registration number and date are printed clearly.
- The registrar's signature and office seal are on the front.
- The child's name appears in the name field.
- Parents' names are spelt the way their passports show them.
- There is no lamination and no tape on the paper.
If any line fails, fix it at the registration office first. A correction made after the apostille would mean starting again with a new certificate. We are happy to review a photo before you spend money on courier.
