Marriage Certificate Apostille in Odisha, Step by Step
A marriage certificate apostille in Odisha usually begins with a certificate from an urban local body, issued through the state's SUJOG portal under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. Elsewhere, registration may sit with the Registrar under the Hindu Marriage Act at the district or local body office. INFINITYGRO Attestation, a private document agency in Delhi, takes the certificate through notary, SDM and the Ministry of External Affairs.

Marriage certificate attestation sample
I downloaded my marriage certificate from SUJOG. Is that good enough for the UK spouse visa apostille? Send us the certificate as issued by your urban local body, with its seal or verification marks intact. For a marriage certificate apostille in Odisha, we take the original through a Delhi notary, the SDM (Delhi) and the MEA, usually in 2 to 3 working days. The state route through the Home department in Bhubaneswar is used only when asked for.
SUJOG: how Odisha towns register marriages
Odisha brought urban services onto one portal called SUJOG. Couples log in with a mobile number and one-time password, fill in bride, groom, guardian and witness details, and upload photos and papers. An official of the urban local body checks the documents. The couple then pays, attends physical verification, and downloads the certificate once it is approved.
Older registrations were done on paper forms. For example, some notified area councils used Form B addressed to the Registrar under the Hindu Marriage Act. Either kind of certificate can be apostilled.
SUJOG lets couples track the application and edit the certificate later if a correction is needed. Use this feature before the apostille. Once the MEA has placed its sticker, any change to the certificate means a fresh certificate and a fresh apostille.
The registration fee and treasury charges on SUJOG are set by the state and are separate from the apostille cost. Check the portal for the current amount.

How marriage certificate apostille in Odisha works
The MEA, CPV Division, issues the apostille. It checks only the signature of the officer who authenticated the document, not its content. Since July 2012 documents reach the MEA through authorised outsourced centres, not from individuals.
- You courier the certificate and passport copies to us.
- A Delhi notary attests it.
- The SDM (Delhi) verifies the notary.
- The MEA apostilles it.
- We return it by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier.
MEA fee: Rs 50 per document. Our all-inclusive Delhi route price: Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document. Courier is extra.
Printing and protecting your certificate
The apostille sticker goes on the back of the document, so do not laminate it. Print a clean copy if you downloaded the certificate, and keep any verification code visible. If you have only a photocopy of an older paper certificate, request a fresh certified copy from the issuing office. The MEA does not apostille photocopies.
Check the date of marriage, the place and both parents' names before printing. These details often appear on visa forms abroad, and any mismatch can lead to questions. If something is wrong, correct it on SUJOG first, then send us the final certificate.
Bhubaneswar couples and the rest of Odisha
In Bhubaneswar, couples apply through SUJOG to the city's urban local body. Certificates from Cuttack, Berhampur, smaller municipalities or district offices all follow the same apostille route. Courier the document to our New Ashok Nagar office in Delhi. We do not offer home pickup.
When Bhubaneswar Home department signs first
Some receiving offices abroad want the state to verify the certificate. For Odisha, the authority on the MEA list is the Special or Principal Secretary, Home, in Bhubaneswar. After that signature, the MEA apostilles it. The time depends on the department. Most spouse visa, residence and citizenship files accept the Delhi route, so ask the receiving office first.
What Odisha couples use it for
The apostilled certificate is used abroad for many things. The most common are spouse and dependant visas, residence permits and citizenship files. Women often need it to change their surname in a passport while abroad. Couples also need it for joint bank accounts, property purchases and, sometimes, a divorce or family court case in another country.
Each office has its own list. Some want the certificate apostilled together with birth certificates or a police clearance. If you need several documents apostilled, send them together. We handle each one on the same Delhi route, which keeps the timing simple.
If you are not sure which documents the foreign office wants, send us its checklist. We will read it and tell you what to prepare.
Odia text and translation
Where the certificate includes Odia, the destination country may want a certified translation. We arrange translation in all major languages.
- Names must match both passports.
- Add a name affidavit if they differ.
- Include passport copies of both spouses.
Countries that accept it, and those that do not
Hague members accept the apostille, including Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain. China and Germany do not accept Indian apostilles. The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt need MEA attestation and embassy legalization.

No. Wait until the urban local body approves it and you can download the certificate. The apostille is placed on the final certificate.
