Marriage Certificate Apostille in Rajasthan
Marriage certificate apostille in Rajasthan usually begins with a certificate from the Pehchan civil registration system, issued by a Registrar at the gram panchayat or urban local body under the Rajasthan Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act, 2009. These certificates can be e-signed, carry a QR code, and can be printed in Hindi, English or both. INFINITYGRO, a private agency in Delhi, takes the certificate through to the MEA Apostille.

Our marriage certificate was downloaded from Pehchan in Hindi. Can it be apostilled for my wife's UK visa, and do we need English? Yes, a Pehchan certificate can be apostilled. For marriage certificate apostille in Rajasthan we usually use the Delhi route: notary, SDM and then MEA. For the UK, it is better to have the English or bilingual version. Pehchan can produce bilingual certificates, so ask your registrar for one. If that is not possible, we arrange a certified English translation.
Pehchan and the e-signed certificate
Rajasthan registers births, deaths and marriages on one platform called Pehchan, built by NIC Rajasthan. Thousands of registrars at gram panchayats and urban local bodies log in to it. Registrars can sign certificates digitally, using a dongle or Aadhaar based e-sign, and every certificate carries a QR code.
Couples can download the certificate from the portal or the mobile app, or collect a print from an e-Mitra or CSC kiosk. A copy is also sent by email. For apostille, a clean print of the e-signed certificate on good paper is what we work with. Do not laminate it.
The QR code lets an officer abroad check the certificate against the state record. That helps with visa files, but it does not replace the Apostille. Foreign authorities still need the MEA stamp to accept the document as an Indian public record.

What the 2009 Act requires
The Rajasthan Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act, 2009 makes registration compulsory for marriages solemnised in the state. The State Government appoints Registrars of Marriages by notification. A District Marriage Registration Officer supervises each district, and a Registrar General of Marriages monitors the whole system. On Pehchan, the Chief Registrar (Birth and Death) also serves as Registrar General (Marriage).
The memorandum of marriage must reach the Registrar within 30 days of the wedding. A late memorandum is still accepted on payment of a penalty. If you never registered, do that first. An apostille can only be placed on a registered certificate.
Registration under the 2009 Act does not change which religious or civil law governs the marriage itself. A Hindu marriage remains under the Hindu Marriage Act, and a court marriage remains under the Special Marriage Act. The 2009 Act only makes sure the marriage is on record. If you married under the Special Marriage Act, your certificate comes from the Marriage Officer, and it can be apostilled the same way.
Hindi, English or bilingual: picking the right print
Pehchan has a language module. It can print a certificate in Hindi, in English, or in both languages side by side. This matters abroad. A bilingual or English certificate often avoids the need for a separate translation for English-speaking countries.
If you already hold a Hindi-only certificate, you can still apostille it. We then attach a certified translation. Check the English spelling of both names against your passports. Pehchan transliterations sometimes differ from passport spellings, and a mismatch may need an affidavit.
Routes for marriage certificate apostille in Rajasthan
The MEA verifies only the signature of the authenticating officer. You therefore need one verified signature before the MEA stage.
- Delhi route. Delhi notary, then SDM (Delhi), then MEA Apostille. Usually 2 to 3 working days once we receive the original.
- State route. The Deputy Secretary (Coordination), Home Department, Jaipur authenticates the certificate before the MEA. Timing depends on the department.
We suggest the state route only when the receiving authority abroad asks for it. Our MEA apostille page explains the stamps.
Couples from Jaipur and Udaipur
In Jaipur and Udaipur, urban marriages are registered by the registrar of the municipal body, while village weddings are registered at the gram panchayat. Both feed into Pehchan, so the certificate format looks the same across the state.
Wherever in Rajasthan it was issued, the apostille process is identical. Courier the certificate to our Delhi office. Jaipur is close to Delhi, so some clients prefer to drop off in person. We return documents by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier.
Udaipur and Jaipur both see many destination weddings, including weddings of NRI couples who live abroad. If you married in Rajasthan but live outside India, a relative can collect the certificate from the registrar or download it, and courier it to us. You do not need to be in India for the apostille.
Your courier packet
- Printed Pehchan certificate, or the original issued by the registrar
- Passport copies of both spouses
- Destination country and purpose
- Name affidavit if spellings differ
The MEA does not apostille photocopies. Send the certificate itself, not a photocopy of a printout.
Gulf jobs and European visas
Many Rajasthan families have members working in the UAE, Kuwait or Qatar. Those countries are outside the Apostille Convention, so the certificate needs MEA attestation and then embassy legalization. See our embassy attestation service. Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain accept the Apostille. For Germany and China an Indian Apostille is not accepted.
Canada, the USA, the UK, Australia and most of Europe accept the Apostille. Send us the checklist from the visa or immigration office if you are unsure, and we will confirm the right process before you courier anything.
