We notarise it, get SDM verification in Delhi and submit it to the MEA. How GHMC issues a birth certificate
For a birth in a Hyderabad hospital, the hospital enters the details online. A GHMC registrar then verifies the entry. The family collects the certificate from a MeeSeva centre, and it can also be downloaded through the GHMC website or app once registered.
Home births follow a different path. The family gets supporting papers from the hospital where the child was immunised, then applies at MeeSeva. A registrar approves the case before the certificate is released.
GHMC has said it is preparing an online Civil Registration System portal. Certificates printed from either system can be apostilled if they are issued and signed in the usual way.

Births registered outside Hyderabad
Outside the GHMC area, the local municipality registers births in towns. In villages, the gram panchayat keeps the register. Government hospitals in some places report directly to the local registrar.
Telangana was formed in 2014. Older certificates for births in what is now Telangana may carry the name of undivided Andhra Pradesh. That does not stop an apostille, since the MEA checks the signature. If the receiving office wants a recent printout, ask the local body holding the record.
Birth certificate apostille in Telangana: our steps
- Send a scan on WhatsApp. We check the name, seal and registration number.
- Courier the original to C-5 A/2 New Ashok Nagar, Delhi 110096, or drop it off if you are in Delhi NCR.
- We arrange notary and SDM verification in Delhi.
- We submit it to the MEA through an authorised centre. The MEA fee is Rs 50.
- The apostilled certificate returns by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier.
The state route uses the General Administration Department (General) at the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad. Choose it only if a foreign office asks for state government verification.

Collect the printed certificate from MeeSeva, check it, and then courier it to us. Neighbouring Secunderabad and Cyberabad areas may fall under GHMC or a nearby municipality. The body named on the certificate is the one that matters.
We do not collect documents from homes in Hyderabad. A reputed courier works best. Pack the certificate flat between two sheets of card so it does not crease on the way.
Late registration and adding a name
A birth should be reported within 21 days. If that did not happen, the registrar can still record it under the delayed registration rules of the 1969 Act. Longer delays need more papers, and very old cases need an order from a magistrate.
Parents can also add a child's name after the birth is registered, with a late fee once the first year passes. GHMC and other local bodies handle this through the same registrar who holds the record.
Finish these steps first. A birth certificate apostille in Telangana can only confirm the certificate as it is printed. It cannot fix gaps or errors.
Fix these before the apostille
- The child's name must be on the certificate. Ask GHMC or your local body to add it if it is missing.
- Compare each parent's name with the spelling in their passport. A difference calls for an affidavit.
- Send the original only. Photocopies cannot be apostilled.
- Keep the certificate unlaminated.
Since 1 October 2023, the digital birth certificate counts as a single proof of date of birth in India. Foreign offices still set their own rules, so ask what they accept.
