How to Get a Birth Certificate Apostille in Andhra Pradesh
To get a birth certificate apostille in Andhra Pradesh, you first need a certificate signed by the right local registrar. In the state, that is usually a municipal health officer in towns or the Panchayat Secretary in villages, under the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare as Chief Registrar. INFINITYGRO Attestation then carries the certificate to the MEA and back.

Who is the Chief Registrar of births in Andhra Pradesh? The Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, based in Vijayawada, is the Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths for Andhra Pradesh. Local registrars in municipalities and gram panchayats issue the certificates. For a birth certificate apostille in Andhra Pradesh, it is that local registrar's signature that the notary, SDM and MEA chain verifies.
Three departments behind one certificate
Andhra Pradesh runs birth registration through the Medical and Health Department, with Municipal Administration and Panchayat Raj sharing the work on the ground. The Director of Public Health and Family Welfare serves as Chief Registrar.
In corporations and municipalities, the Municipal Health Officer or the Commissioner usually acts as registrar. In villages, the Panchayat Secretary of each gram panchayat registers births. Superintendents or medical officers of some government hospitals also act as registrars.
The state has been moving its older records from legacy software onto the national Civil Registration System. A recent certificate will usually be computer printed with a registration number.

Get the certificate right first
- Check that the child's name is printed. If not, ask the registrar to add it and issue a fresh copy.
- Compare the parents' names with their passports. A mismatch needs an affidavit.
- Use the original certificate, since photocopies are never apostilled.
- Avoid lamination, since the stamp goes on the back.
If you hold an old handwritten certificate, ask the same registrar for a computerised extract. Many receiving offices abroad ask for one.
Since the 2023 amendment to the 1969 Act, the digital birth certificate is accepted in India as a single proof of date of birth. A foreign office may still want the paper original with a seal. Send that original for the birth certificate apostille in Andhra Pradesh, not a printout of an SMS or email.
Birth certificate apostille in Andhra Pradesh: Delhi or state route
Delhi route
We get the certificate notarised and verified by an SDM in Delhi. Then we submit it to the MEA through an authorised centre. Expect about 2 to 3 working days after the original arrives.
State route
Andhra Pradesh's designated authority is the General Administration Department (Protocol / Law and Order). The MEA's updated list also shows an office at the Amaravati Secretariat. After state verification, the certificate goes to the MEA.
Most clients use the Delhi route because it is quicker to arrange from anywhere in the state.
Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada families
In Visakhapatnam, births inside the city are registered by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. Families in surrounding mandals get certificates from their gram panchayat.
In Vijayawada, the municipal corporation handles registration for the city. The Chief Registrar's office is also in Vijayawada, which helps when an old record needs to be traced.
From either city, courier the original to our Delhi office. It travels back to you by Blue Dart or another tracked courier. We do not offer pickup.
Late registration and missing names
Births should be reported within 21 days. If a birth was reported late, the registrar follows the delayed registration steps in Section 13 of the 1969 Act. Long delays need an order from a magistrate before the entry is made.
A child's name can be added after registration under the same Act, with a late fee once the first year is over. Do this before any apostille work. Foreign passport offices nearly always reject a certificate that has no name for the child.
We cannot change a record. Only the registrar holding it can.
Why the certificate goes abroad
Telugu families in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia are the largest group of our Andhra clients. They often need a child's birth certificate apostilled for a passport, visa or school place.
- Dependent visa or residence permit for a child.
- Citizenship by descent claims.
- School or college admission abroad.
- OCI-related work done overseas.
A parent's own certificate may be needed too. That is a separate apostille. Ask the embassy or school for its full checklist first, so every certificate can travel to us in one parcel.
Countries that need a different process
The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Egypt are outside the Apostille Convention. They want MEA attestation and embassy legalisation. Our embassy attestation service handles this.
China does not accept India's apostille after India objected to its accession in 2023. Germany also verifies Indian documents through its own embassy.
Telugu text may need a certified translation for non-English countries.
Charges and what they include
The MEA fee is Rs 50 per document. Our all-inclusive Delhi route charge is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document, covering notary, SDM, the MEA fee and our service. Courier is extra.
Each document is its own apostille. Two children's certificates are two apostilles. More detail is on our birth certificate apostille page.

Andhra Pradesh birth certificate apostille FAQs
My child was born in a government hospital. Who issues the certificate?
Some government hospitals have their own registrar, usually the superintendent or a medical officer. Others report to the local municipality. The certificate shows which office registered the birth.
Can the certificate be from before Andhra Pradesh was divided in 2014?
Yes. The apostille checks the signature on the certificate you hold. If the receiving office wants a recent copy, ask the registrar who holds the record.
My child was born in Hyderabad but we live in Andhra Pradesh. Which page applies?
The issuing office decides. See our Telangana birth certificate page for a GHMC certificate.
The certificate is in Telugu only. Is that a problem?
The MEA will still apostille it, since it checks only the signature. The receiving office may want a certified English or other translation alongside it, which we can arrange.
Is the apostille checked by the foreign country?
Yes. Each MEA apostille has a unique number that the receiving office can verify online.
Can I send the certificate from abroad?
Yes. Courier the original to our Delhi office and share a return address in India or abroad. Courier charges apply.
