How to Get a Diploma Certificate Apostille in Karnataka
Polytechnic diplomas in Karnataka are awarded through the Department of Technical Education, and that department is where any check on your certificate starts. A diploma certificate apostille in Karnataka then adds the MEA stamp so a country abroad can accept it. We explain the steps for engineering diplomas, nursing diplomas and ITI certificates below.

Who verifies a polytechnic diploma from Karnataka before apostille? The Department of Technical Education (DTE), Karnataka, issues and records polytechnic diplomas. For a diploma certificate apostille in Karnataka, the document goes through notary and SDM in Delhi, or through a Karnataka Regional Commissioner, and then to the MEA. Nursing diplomas and ITI certificates have their own issuing bodies and are checked there.
The Department of Technical Education and your diploma
Karnataka's government and private polytechnics run three-year diploma courses under the Department of Technical Education. The department conducts the semester exams, publishes results on dtek.karnataka.gov.in and issues the final diploma certificate.
The national services directory lists DTE Karnataka services for an original diploma certificate, a consolidated marks card and a migration certificate. If you lost your diploma or never collected it, sort that out with DTE first. The MEA cannot stamp a document you do not hold.
An older diploma issued before the department moved its records online is still valid. It may take longer to verify. Diplomas awarded by an autonomous institute or a deemed university are a different case. Those are verified through the institute that issued them, not through DTE.

Which diploma documents can be apostilled
Most of our Karnataka diploma clients send one of these:
- Polytechnic diploma in engineering or technology from DTE
- Consolidated marks card for the diploma
- General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma, registered with the Karnataka State Nursing Council
- ITI trade certificate under NCVT or SCVT
- Diplomas in pharmacy or paramedical subjects
Each of these is a separate document. A diploma and its marks card mean two apostilles. Certificates from short private courses with no government recognition are hard to verify and may be refused.
Diploma certificate apostille in Karnataka, step by step
- You send us a scan on WhatsApp. We check the issuer, the name match with your passport and the destination country.
- You courier the original to our Delhi office.
- A notary attests it and the SDM in Delhi verifies the notary signature. If your employer abroad wants state verification, we use a Karnataka Regional Commissioner instead.
- We file the document with the MEA through its authorised outsourced centre. Individuals cannot submit at the counter.
- The apostilled diploma returns to you by tracked courier.
The Delhi route usually takes 2 to 3 working days once we have the original.
Nursing diplomas and ITI certificates need extra care
Nurses moving to the UK, Ireland or Saudi Arabia often need two things. One is the apostille on the GNM diploma. The other is a direct verification from the Karnataka State Nursing Council to the foreign regulator. The council handles the second part itself, so plan both together.
ITI certificates under NCVT carry a national seal. SCVT certificates are state-level. Make sure the trade name and year on the certificate match what your employer listed in the offer letter. Gulf employers commonly ask for ITI papers, and the Gulf countries outside the convention need embassy attestation instead of an apostille.
Lost, damaged or old diplomas
We often get diplomas that are torn at the folds, faded or missing a page. If the seal and signature are still clear, the document can usually go ahead. If they are not, a notary or state officer may refuse to sign.
When the original is lost, apply to DTE Karnataka or your polytechnic for a duplicate. Keep the police complaint or affidavit that the department asks for. Once the duplicate arrives, it is apostilled the same way as an original.
Diplomas from polytechnics that have since closed are still verified through DTE, because the department holds the exam records.
Clients in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru and Kalaburagi
Polytechnic holders across Karnataka send their papers to us by courier. A few patterns we see:
- Bengaluru: Electronics and computer diploma holders taking up technician roles abroad.
- Mysuru: Mechanical and automobile diplomas, often for Gulf jobs.
- Mangaluru: Nursing and marine-related diplomas, with many clients bound for the Middle East.
- Kalaburagi: Civil and electrical diplomas, plus ITI certificates.
Every document goes back by Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier. There is no pickup from home.
Which countries accept the apostilled diploma
The apostille works in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and most of Europe. It does not work for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait or Egypt, which need MEA attestation and embassy legalization. Our UAE attestation fees page covers Dubai and Abu Dhabi jobs.
China and Germany also do not accept an Indian apostille.

Karnataka diploma certificate apostille FAQs
Is a DTE Karnataka diploma accepted for apostille?
Yes. It is a government-issued certificate, and it goes through the Delhi route or the Karnataka state route before the MEA.
Can I apostille a provisional diploma?
It is possible, but many employers abroad want the final diploma. Collect the original from DTE or your polytechnic if you can.
My diploma is laminated. What now?
The MEA cannot stamp the back of a laminated document. Ask DTE about a duplicate before you apply.
Does a diploma certificate apostille in Karnataka cover my marks card?
No. The marks card is a separate document and needs its own apostille.
Do ITI certificates need the state route?
Usually not. The Delhi route is accepted for most ITI certificates unless the employer asks otherwise.
Can I walk into the MEA with my diploma myself?
No. Since July 2012 the MEA accepts documents only through its authorised outsourced centres. We file through them on your behalf, after the notary and SDM steps are done in Delhi.
