Which board issues diplomas in Andhra Pradesh? The State Board of Technical Education and Training, Andhra Pradesh (sbtet.ap.gov.in) runs diploma and pharmacy exams and issues the certificates. For a diploma certificate apostille in Andhra Pradesh, the diploma goes through notary and SDM in Delhi, or through the state's General Administration Department, and then to the MEA.
SBTET AP and your diploma
SBTET AP sets the curriculum for polytechnics in Andhra Pradesh. It conducts the semester exams and publishes results under schemes such as C16, C20 and C23. It also handles pharmacy diploma results under the ER-91 and ER-2020 regulations.
The board issues the final diploma once you clear all subjects. If you have only a marks memo and no diploma, collect the diploma first. The MEA can stamp only documents you hold.

Diplomas awarded by an autonomous institute or a university, instead of SBTET, are verified by that institute. This matters for some specialised courses. Look at the name and seal on the certificate to see who issued it.

Diplomas issued before June 2014
Before the 2014 split, one board in Hyderabad issued diplomas for the whole of undivided Andhra Pradesh. If your polytechnic is now in Andhra Pradesh, SBTET AP is the board to contact for duplicates or confirmations. If it is now in Telangana, contact SBTET Telangana.
For the Delhi route, the old certificate can be apostilled as it is. The notary and SDM do not need a fresh copy, as long as the seal and signature are clear.
The state route is different. A foreign employer that asks for state verification expects the state where the polytechnic now sits to confirm the diploma. In that case we check with you which board holds the records before we send anything to the General Administration Department.
Diploma certificate apostille in Andhra Pradesh: how it runs

Nursing, pharmacy and ITI documents
The Andhra Pradesh Nurses and Midwives Council registers nurses, midwives, health workers and health visitors. Registrations are renewed every five years. A nurse going abroad often needs a registration check from the council as well as the apostille on the diploma.
D.Pharmacy holders get their diplomas from SBTET AP. Some countries ask for a pharmacy council registration too. That is a separate document with its own apostille.
ITI certificates under NCVT or SCVT are common among technicians heading to the Gulf. They usually go through the Delhi route.
Check the trade name and year on the ITI certificate against your visa or job offer. Gulf employers often match these details closely. If the offer letter lists a different trade, ask the employer to correct it before you start, because the apostilled certificate cannot be changed afterwards.
Problems we see with AP diplomas
- A diploma laminated years ago, which cannot be stamped on the back
- A surname written in full on the diploma but as an initial in the passport, which is common in Andhra Pradesh
- Marks memos available but the final diploma never collected
- Supplementary marks memos sent without the regular ones
- A date of birth on the diploma that differs from the passport
The initial-and-surname issue is easy to fix with a name affidavit. The others usually need a visit to SBTET AP or your polytechnic. Tell us about any of these before you post anything.
Torn or faded diplomas are another issue. If the board seal or signature cannot be read, a notary may refuse to attest it. A duplicate from SBTET AP is then the safer option.
Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada diploma holders
- Visakhapatnam: Mechanical, marine and chemical diploma holders, many joining shipyards and plants in the Gulf.
- Vijayawada: Civil, electrical and pharmacy diploma holders, plus nurses trained in the Krishna and Guntur region.
You courier your originals to Delhi. Blue Dart or a similar tracked courier brings them back. There is no doorstep collection. Clients in Guntur, Kakinada and Tirupati follow the same steps.
Gulf and other destinations
Gulf members of the convention, namely Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain, accept the apostille, and so do the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and most of Europe.
