How is a Meghalaya polytechnic diploma apostilled? A diploma certificate apostille in Meghalaya needs the diploma verified before the MEA acts. The state route goes to the Secretary, Education Department, Shillong. The Delhi route uses a notary and the SDM. After verification, the MEA adds the apostille at Rs 50 per document. Plan for one apostille on every mark sheet too.
The four working polytechnics
The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education lists four functioning polytechnics. They are Shillong Polytechnic in East Khasi Hills, Tura Polytechnic in West Garo Hills, Jowai Polytechnic in West Jaintia Hills and Williamnagar Polytechnic in East Garo Hills. New polytechnics at Nongstoin, Nongpoh and Gasuapara are being made functional.
The Directorate's guidelines for Jowai Polytechnic say the institute is affiliated to the Meghalaya State Council for Technical Education, which conducts the examinations. So the council's record stands behind your final diploma.

Verify first, apostille second
The MEA does not check diplomas against council records. It relies on a verifying authority to do that first, then checks that authority's signature.
State route: Education documents from Meghalaya go to the Secretary, Education Department. Use this route when an overseas employer or regulator asks for state verification. Some engineering assessment bodies abroad set out their own rules on who must verify a diploma, so read their guidance first.
Delhi route: A notary attests the original and the SDM in Delhi verifies it. This works for diplomas from any state.
Once verified, the diploma reaches the MEA through an authorised outsourced centre. Walk-in submissions have not been accepted since July 2012.
Diploma certificate apostille in Meghalaya: what to send
- The original final diploma.
- Semester mark sheets you need abroad.
- A copy of your passport.
- An affidavit, only if your name on the diploma differs from your passport.
Check the condition of the paper too. A torn, water-stained or faded diploma may be questioned during verification. If yours is damaged, ask the council about a duplicate first. That saves a wasted courier trip.
Do not send a laminated diploma. The MEA stamp goes on the back. Do not send photocopies either, as they cannot be apostilled.
If you hold a provisional certificate only, ask the employer whether it will do. Many prefer the final diploma.
Nursing diplomas and trade certificates
GNM and ANM diplomas in Meghalaya are linked to registration with the state nursing council. Hospitals abroad often want both the diploma and the registration certificate. We apostille each one separately.
ITI certificates fall under NCVT or SCVT. NCVT certificates are issued under the national system, while SCVT certificates come from the state. The issuing body decides how verification is done.
Polytechnic pharmacy diplomas are also verified against the issuing body. A pharmacist working abroad may further need registration with the state pharmacy council, which is a separate document.
Diploma holders in Shillong
Shillong has the Directorate, the Education Department and the largest polytechnic. You do not need to visit any of these offices yourself. Courier the diploma from Shillong to INFINITYGRO Attestation, C-5 A/2 New Ashok Nagar, Delhi 110096.
Diplomas from Williamnagar or the newer polytechnics follow the same route as those from Shillong. Holders from Tura or Jowai can do the same. Keep the tracking slip and send us the number on WhatsApp. The apostilled diploma travels back to you by Blue Dart or a comparable tracked courier. Home collection is not available.
If you moved on to a B.Tech after your diploma
Many polytechnic graduates in Meghalaya join a B.Tech through lateral entry. Some study at NIT Meghalaya, others at universities in nearby states. If you have both a diploma and a degree, the receiving office may want one or both.
The two papers go to different issuers for checking. The council's record backs the diploma, while the university's signature backs the degree. You can send both together. They are processed in one file, and each one gets its own apostille.
For the degree side, see our page on degree apostille in Meghalaya.
Using the diploma overseas
The apostille works in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and most European countries. It does not work in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait or Egypt, which need MEA attestation plus embassy legalization. China and Germany do not accept India's apostille either.
Technicians from Meghalaya often look at jobs in the Gulf and in Southeast Asia. Check whether your country is a Hague member before you choose a process, because the two routes cost different amounts.
Our UAE attestation fee guide explains the other chain. If your diploma has any non-English text, we can add certified translation.
Charges for the Delhi route
We charge Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per document, covering notary, SDM, the Rs 50 MEA fee and our service. Courier is extra. The Delhi route usually takes 2 to 3 working days from when we receive the papers.
The state route through Shillong depends on the department, so it can take longer than the Delhi route. We give you updates throughout.

Meghalaya diploma certificate apostille FAQs
Does the Meghalaya State Council for Technical Education issue apostilles?
No. The council runs the exams. The apostille comes only from the MEA after verification.
I studied in another state on a Meghalaya quota seat. Which board verifies?
The board that issued your diploma. If it was another state's board, that state's process applies.
Is my polytechnic stamp enough?
The verifying officer checks the issuing authority's signature on the final diploma, so the polytechnic stamp alone is not enough.
Can I apostille a duplicate diploma?
Yes, as long as it is an original duplicate issued by the competent authority, not a photocopy.
How long does the Shillong route take?
The Education Department in Shillong sets its own pace, so we cannot give a fixed time. We keep you updated at each stage of your diploma certificate apostille in Meghalaya.
